Rudy is 100% right and I'm glad he said what he said. I have to imagine he's tired of carrying the entire team on defense, then catching the crap when the other guys can't hold up. The only people I don't really blame for the loss are Rudy, Don, and Clarkson. O'Neale put in the effort, but he is being asked to do stuff he just can't do.

if you believe thmeir college coaches both could become really good NBA players. Maybe we would not have hemmoraged as badly if they took some of the load off Rudy and Spida.
Well as you can see JC and Favs were already signed specifically for the purpose of "taking some of the load off Rudy and Spida" and we saw how it pan out......

I am going to be bummed if they bring back guys like Oni, Niang, Matt Thomas, Morgan and even Brantley. I am really going to be bummed if Udoka cannot beat out Favors for the backup Center position. Personally I thought bringing back Favors was a typical Jazz move. Instead of getting an athletic Wing they bring back Favors who has been on the decline the last couple of years, taking loyalty/familiarity over talent. I am going to be bummed if Hughes is not getting minutes off the bench. I am bummed right now. No more Jazz basketball for a while. Are they having summer league this year? One last thing if the Jazz keep their pick and then sign some washed up FA to play ahead of him, that might be the final straw for me. I've been a Jazz fan for 42 years and I am really tired of loyalty over talent.

Well if you're honest with yourself then you would realize that your lack of action to acquire more athletic guys who can defend and make shots should be on you. I swear I do not want to hear about being close and injuries. The fact is the Jazz were not that good after the all-star break. They cannot defend the perimeter and they have no studs who play the SF/PF. when DM is play PG then they have no NBA starter playing the position. I love Royce but he should be coming off the bench unless he vastly improves his handles and offensive game which at this point I do not see it happening.

I know that he’s got time for cryptic Twitter posts but not a 5 minute zoom call as the face of the franchise. Again, he is a trash dude behind that PR.
I am sure DM could careless about your hatred for him. Geez go change your diapers. We get it you don't like DM. Did he not sign an autograph or something? Never mind I really don't care.

I'm with you. I don't think Oni got enough important minutes to decide either way. He's a low cost investment for another year, what do we have to lose? If he can even become a minor worthwhile trade asset, what's the harm?
He has had a couple years to show something. All you have to do is watch the game and you see why he was the 50th pick. These experts should not take 3 years to know if a guy has it or not. Heck I saw Mann the first game and I thought who is that guy. I never thought he would score 39 pts in a playoff game but you could tell he could guard and had some offensive ability. After a couple of years you can't keep waiting for guys to develop. There has to be some sign that they can play in the NBA and after a few years only Oni gets some minutes and hasn't really done anything to warrant the minutes.

I understand. But he was a trade target a while back that would have come with assets from Detroit.

Ahhhh... unfortunately I think we would have got the Detroit version. What he did to them was criminal... play like utter dog **** and tank any possible trade value... get your buyout and then starts playing hard again. I have a very low opinion of hi. So I personally would have been out there.

Yeah, he just kinda sucks at catching and finishing in traffic.
He’s not coordinated enough to do the basic stuff we want. He has a high center of gravity so guys can move him off his spots too easily. I feel like he’s lost a little bit of his athleticism as well. At this point this is who he is... he won’t magically add this stuff now.

Last night Don dropped off a simple dump pass... he didn’t go up immediately like he may have bobbled it... then fumbles around until the defense blocks it pretty easily... he had another lob pass almost immediately after where the defender angled into him a little and he couldn’t catch it... it’s kind of a foul but it’s also something Giannis or other more stout bigs play through and are coordinated enough to dunk... it became a turnover.

There is a reason they don’t always throw it to him. They do miss him at times but it’s tough to see how clear the angles a passer has at times. I get super frustrated when guys get upset when you miss them but you have no angle to throw the pass you’d like too.

The answer to small-ball actually isn't defense in the context of Rudy. It is that he HAS to impose his will on the game when he is so much bigger. He has to draw triple teams on every roll and has to be able to punish when they switch a guard on him in single coverage with aplomb.

Some of this stuff is outside of Gobert's wheelhouse, but I cannot be convinced that he can't bully a guard and just spin and dunk. We don't need immense skill, we simply need him to play his size. Gobert plays a cerebral and conservative game, but at a certain point, his mentality needs to shift into the alpha he thinks he is and just yak on fools smaller than him.
Was rudy ever given the ball to punish guys inside? I seem to remember throughout this series our guards ignoring Rudy down low.

Defensively, the Jazz don't remember what it's like to have a legit help defender and not just Rudy trying to guard the whole floor.
Offensively, the Jazz don't remember what it's like to have a guy who can drive and finish at the rim, as well as knock down open shots.
Even one guy like Jerami Grant checks those boxes and changes the outlook of this team.

If that means taking Mike Conley or Bojan Bogdanovic off the floor to make space for that kind of player, you have to do it.
Pair grant with Spida and Gobert snd you’re looking at a title contender.

He’s never ever been that guy. He doesn’t hold his position and catch the ball cleanly. If it isn’t a lob it’s going to be a turnover or an ugly *** hook that has no prayer.

Isn’t this all on DL for not drafting well and Q? I remember many times many of us were wondering why our starters were playing late into a blowout game. Did Q fail to see what happened to Thibb’s Chicago teams?

With 3 minutes left, Rudy got an offensive rebound when we were down 3. He fumbled it and was stripped. They went the other way to make it a 5 point game. Closest we got.

Who is he gonna punish?

It’s a bull **** excuse imo... both that we wore down and that he couldn’t find someone that would take a role here. Again... we had two opportunities to sign Torrey Craig... could have used BAE to sign him for more than the minimum... could have traded some cash for him... or the second rounder we sent in the Thomas deal.

Quin stealing a few minutes in blowouts wasn’t a bug load management deal. It’s frustrating but only because a guy can get hurt... the extra two or three minutes in the 20 or so blowouts ain’t no thing.

Also Rudy was not playing a billion minutes in the playoffs... we stick to our normal rotations for the most part until the last few games.
