Utes 2011 Football Discussion

Let's see, I'm not quite sure if I understand all this.

When a team gets hammered on by 44 points, wouldn't it also be correct to say BYU lost 54-10 on the first play of the game, and on the second play of the game, and on the third play of the game, etc.?

No, you're not getting it, the game was not over until the "last" play of the game, so that is the play that they either won it on, or lost it on. Besides the first play of the game made it 7-0, and they scored 10 later on. I could see saying BYU lost the game on the second drive/fumble of the game, but I was trying to follow Salty's logic on this, follow his lead.

It's because of their conference record, foos.

UCLA and Arizona state are 4-3 and UCLA gets the head to head tie break.
Utahr is 3-4 so is below them both.

My team is not even in a conference and I get it. Cmon, it's all ball bearings nowadays.

Fletch, you missed the point. Or maybe you fully got it. Either way, ESPN did not because they're listing USC as first in the PAC-12 South with Utahr limping in three spots behind at 4th. This is clearly a mistake as Utahr is 3rd and USC should not be in the standings. Heck, they should not have even been playing their games. Only Salty's brought this to our attention and now it's someone's duty to relay the information to the powers that be in Bristol. Utahr is in third. THIRD!!!

Maybe ESPN is so far unable to use strikethrough on their website.
USC with a strikethrough on it would clear this all up.

By the way, does this mean Utah is Seventh in the Conference instead of Eighth?
How awesome is *Seventh in your first year?

It wasn't a card, I don't play card games, they're eeeeeeevil.
Oh, and the Utes suck at basketball.
So defensive. Don't you wish your basketball team could be half of what you are defensively.
"We know we suck, so your point was stupid.... hahaha"
BTW, the basketball was an example and wasn't the point of the post, so it was not off topic.
It apparently did hurt your feelings so you would lash out, so my secondary goal was achieved, well done for reacting so predictably.
I won't tell you the point of the post because you probably wouldn't get my explanation either.

It was not an example as much as it was just another sad attempt at passive-agressive trollism on your part. If you were half as clever as you fancy yourself, you would be.......well, still not very clever.

Our first year isnt over yet and our current standings are still very fluid. Come back and ask again after Bowl Season, when that type of question would be much more valid.

For instance: Im going to wait until after bowl season to see if BYU can actually go an entire football season without beating one single team with a record above .500 before I start flapping my gums about it.

No, you're confusing the game being over (or the final outcome being decided) with the clock running out. The 2 are not always the same thing.

For example, in Utah's 54-10 blowout of BYU, the final outcome was known long before the clock expired.

In Utah's loss at USC, the final outcome wasn't known until several hours after the clock had expired.

Pathetic, you knew the Utes lost, it didn't take hours. You just did not know how much you lost by.
You are confusing the facts, with whatever you want to twist around to back up your lame argument.

Oh, I didn't know you bragged about BYU too. I love to tell people BYU is the best school, Football Program etc... in the Multi-Universe just like you do with the Utes, but I didn't know you batted for both teams. I have a whole new respect for you. I also love the Utes and will defend them to the death! We should hang out. Do you like to bowl, on the Wii of course. I hate "real" bowling.

I like to hang with the Ute ganstas, but so far they all think I'm too white and nerdy.

I don't see anywhere on ESPN's site claiming USC is in first place. If there was a #1 by their name, that's one thing. They had to list them somewhere, but they don't count in the division standings.

Look at the PAC 12 standings on this ESPN page, they have ASU "ahead of" UCLA, in the same sense that they have USC "ahead of" everyone in the South:
https://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/254/utah-utes

So again, Utah has the second best overall record in the PAC 12 South (only USC has a better overall record). They have a better overall record than UCLA, and blew them out head to head. If you are saying UCLA is ahead of Utah, you must be talking about the division standings, in which case USC doesn't count.

Tell that to all the people who bet on the game, smart guy. At 3 points Utah covers (wins), at 9 they don't.

There, that was tough to find. USC in first. Utahr in third from last. ESPN. The Worldwide Leader in Sports.

And yet if you follow your link, and click on the link to the "complete standings" it takes you to a page that shows you first the conference records, and then the overall records. It also lists UCLA above Arizona State, and still has USC in the standings. Utah is still fourth. There is not a 4 by their name because I believe ESPN expects the people that frequent their site to be able to count.

So again, the Conference record trumps the overall record if you are talking about CONFERENCE STANDINGS!!! USC still counts, they have only been disallowed from playing post season games. It does not mean they cannot "win the division". You are so dense when you want to be.
