Jazz Preparing Conley Offer in Range of 75/3

People need to stop saying if he can stay healthy. He CANNOT stay healthy. He has been hurt both seasons we have had him. Has he ever played a full season? Some people going to hope his hamstring issues are over. Come on. People say this is the market. Perhaps but the market is what someone is willing to pay. When do franchises say yea we like you but not at that price. I like CP3 but there is no way I would sign him for 100 million dollars at his age.

I would rather have Lonzo or Rozier at $20 per year the next 4 years than Conley here at $75 the next 3.

I don't have faith in Mike. Sure he helps make our offense purr, but we get exposed on defense.

And how do you propose that happens? You can hope that Mike has a great year next year, the 3rd year is a team option, and the Jazz can trade him for some value next summer, but pipe dreams don't turn into reality.

I think from what I've seen the Mavs, and especially the Bulls (according to Tony a few days ago) are what drove the price up. The Bulls can offer Mike a full max, and apparently that is what has driven his price up a bit.

We’d have to deal Clarkson or Ingles in a sign-and-trade back for one of them so that has to be considered as well.

No, next year is repeater tax time. If the Jazz are in the tax next year, they will be in the repeater tax already.

I'm not sure about that.

Teams pay an incremental tax rate based on their team salary as of the team's last regular season game, and whether the team is a "repeat offender," i.e., whether they were also taxpayers in at least three of the four previous seasons (not including the previous season):

Need 3 of 4 years, then you are repeater. 20/21, 21/22, 22/23 will all be charged at non repeater tax rate. If we pay tax in 23/24, then that would qualify as "also taxpayers in at least three of the four previous seasons".

We made this bed a long time ago. Then DL took a massive **** in it. Now we just gotta be happy that Conley is still willing to sleep in it. If things have gone bad by year 3, then there’ll be plenty of additional reasons (besides Conley) to tear it down anyway.

When Conley is healthy, I have no problem with this number. Let’s hope the staff is better able to preserve him, and that Butler is everything we’re hoping he can be.

Conley better figure out how to play without pulling hamstrings
If he can he will be worth it
We will want them to load manage him... by we I mean Jazzfanz... cuz then we get to see Butler more and get him some rest. Butler is a god send... perfect way to develop a guy and get real value out of him because he will help load manage Joe, Mike, and you can give Don some time off.

I'm not sure about that.

So I thought you were wrong about this... but I had assumed it was 2 out of 3 years... we are gonna be fine... we can reset the clock next year if we are responsible in FA. I'm not worried about repeater tax like i was before we dumped Favs. You are correct.

Now... if you sign a taxpayer MLE deal make sure its gonna have value.

I thought it was 2 of 3, because Tony has mentioned several times the Jazz enter repeater tax issues next season.

Exactly- he has played 82 games in his long not so illustrious career exactly 1 time. The guy has averaged 63 games in 14 years and we have seen him get even older and more broken down over the last 2 years. He is basically guaranteed to miss 21% of games as a best case scenario- Red flag!

That 3rd year sure as hell better have a team option.
lolz come on... we are headed in a better direction but there is a reason this is basically a done deal. We beat or matched the market... best case scenario the 3rd year is like 10M guaranteed. He has us over a barrel. Its fine.. our window is the next year or two... can tolerate a ****** deal for a year if he is washed.

I've thought its 2 out of 3 years because Tony Jones has said they are paying the repeater tax next year multiple times. I didn't realize it was 3 out of 4.

Tony said Dallas and Chicago are who drove it from $20 to $25, basically insinuating Chicago (due to wanting to keep Lavine happy) is willing to offer Mike close to a full max contract.

I’m glad we have more backups with Teague and Butler. Conley is guaranteed to miss at least 30 percent of his games.
Teague was signed to an Exhibit 10 contract. The Jazz don't "have" him. They just want him to play for the Stars. But every team will have an equal shot at him once he's on the Stars.

In all likelihood Forrest is the deep backup option.

Yeah I did too... We are fine. We may just want to reset the clock next year.

Chicago can't actually offer a max deal so it may have been as much as they could offer... Some of these teams will miss on their targets and a Mike overpay was likely going to happen. Lock him in... don't jerk him around and find a good solution for both parties is the smart move. Backend of the deal likely is no bueno but guys are playing longer nowadays.
