What's new

Jazz acquire NAW and Juancho Hernangomez for Ingles, Hughes, and two 2nd round picks.

What gives me some glimmer of hope is that he already was much better than he is now. If it was 3 straight years of trash then I would have already given up, but his second year was promising. Coming into this season I think a lot of people expected a breakout season and it was somewhat warranted. These shotmaker types walk a thin line between being super useful and being detrimental. It's also just hard to make decisions as a young guard. Here's hoping that he breaks out like Simons did.

I do kinda wonder if Quin can mold him into a different player. Paschall was 100% a bucket getter for GSW, but I'm so pleased with how he's changed his game even if his skillset didn't exactly matchup. NAW has a more natural transition to a useful role player than did Paschall IMO, so maybe he can be more like KCP and less like Clarkson.
If he has a come to Jesus moment and realizes he's not some high usage guy he might be able to have a moldable game.

It is just funny to hear the reports say "Look sky is the limit if this kid fixes his shooting, gets better at making decisions, limits his turnovers, and improves of defense".... Oh so if he just needs to get good at basketball.

It isn't quite that bad but I'm not super hopeful. I understand the process and understand the trade was more about the money and the cost wasn't much. I also don't hate Hernangomez... might be a guy you need if you get hit with the injury bug again.

If the plan is to throw NAW into the JC role then we've gone full stupid... that is the narrative thrown out there so we don't look like we cheaping out.

Mini poll - Who do you guys like for this team as it currently stands: NAW or Justise Winslow?

Pretty much the same contract.
Without looking at the contract lengths, I'll just spitball that it may have come down to who Portland liked. With Simons, I can see them liking Winslow more.

I don’t think it’s full stupid to throw him into the Clarkson role...as long as Clarkson is gone. He wasn’t that bad his sophomore year. Not great, but you could see how he could develop into that level of player. If we’re able to get a different type of player for Clarkson and let Butler/NAW fight it out for his spot if actually say that’s a good piece of business.

Then again, NOP was dying for him to be that player this year and it would have been hard for him to be worse. You might be right about Juancho. There’s probably just as good of a chance of him contributing. Paschall deserves time though.

It is full stupid to keep stacking high usage players and just expecting it to work. With or without Clarkson, he’s a much more useful player if he can mode his game after KCP instead.

I am curious if he gets the Butler/Burks treatment where if he ****s up he’ll never see the light of day again or if he’ll get JC green light to do literally anything.

I don't see any way JC and NAW can be on the floor together so another deal better be coming.
If we can now ship JC, Hernangomez and a low or protected pick off to Houston for Eric Gordon it will be MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!
And I'm really one of the few JC apologists on this board, but he's just redundant with NAW on board. Sure the kid is still figuring it out, but like Clarkson, he's got the athletic gene in spades and he's got some extra length as well. His numbers are bad because he was a bench scorer with the green light down in NO as well without the benefit of the experience that Clarkson had when he landed here.

But the real bonus would be getting Eric Gordon! Hushed tones here. I don't care about metrics but his numbers are outstanding, particularly 3 pt shooting. It's the character, the killer instinct. This guy is just a cold blooded assassin. Talk about Jazz killers, this is the guy! With EG we might finally have that piece that can push us over the top in a physical playoff slugfest! I mean if Snyder doesn't get in the way.

NAW's shot release is funky. Its not super consistent... it just comes off his hand weird. I can't fully explain it but hopefully we can fix it.

I can't imagine Joe getting anything above the minimum next year, and even then not sure who does that. If the Jazz want to bring him back, which they should, it should be well within their capability of doing so.

Does he have anything left in the tank? He was good... 3 years ago. What about now?

He hasn’t lost a thing as far as I can tell, 427 from three, boards and assists up from last season as well. Not really too worried about the injury thing as some folks are. I mean Houston is in rebuild mode (plantar fasciitis). He would have been a shoe in to win the 3 pt contest. Would make us the best 3 pt shooting team in the league by a mile!

My only concern is that we may have to include another team to make it work (the straight up rule).Houston’s stipulation is to shed salary. If Ainge pulls this gambit off and we win a championship in the wake of it……..somebody write a song about him!!!!

Statistically he's been worse on defense this year than JC. I agree he has the tools to be better though.
Not a huge believer in a lot of defensive metrics. I have a hard time imagining hes worse... but whatevs. I'm not convinced he sees the court. He gonna get Reddished.

I feel like Quin loves Joe so much that he will ensure anyone we got in this trade is unsuccessful. He may even do some **** that causes the Jazz to have to shell out $11M to settle a lawsuit.

I'd be worried if I was Ryan.

Also I think NAW is an addition for next year. Danny gonna trade Rudy in the offseason and Donovan gonna sit out a year... NAW serves as tank commander to get us the #1 pick.
