David Aldridge: Jazz come to terms with Jamaal Tinsley

P.S. He actually is a really good passer and not bad at defense. I just wonder how the whole sitting out while getting paid scenario started? Was that Larry Bird's ego? I highly doubt a player would ever purposely want to play bad cuz he's that unhappy. I could see not playing your best but not to have them sit you for a long time like that.

The ONLY reason, IMO, we didn't sign Watson has to be $$$. No way KoC would've dropped him for any other reason I can think of.

Tinsley has had his issues, but just the fact he was willing to 'lower' himself to play in the D-League says something about his heart and desire. He may be the first 10-year vet to do that. If Eric Musselman, his D-League coach, likes him, I'll roll KoC's call until proven otherwise...

Good point. I'm guessing whatever happened with Indiana he feels bad about or wasn't entirely his fault. Stepping down to the D-League means he loves the game and wants to keep playing despite what it looks like. Nice move, Tinsley. Ok, I'm onboard. :)

It was for conduct detrimental to the team. In other words, he did something ELSE really ****ty that caused them to cut ties where felonious behavior previously didn't.

If this is all over a 3rd string PG, I'd rather have Price or Burks play it and it's not even close.

But whatever, we'll see. Hopefully this is just the Jazz putting a scare in Watson.

LMAO! It is your girlfriend in that picture. It's her. She looks exactly the same as the other picture

Yeah those are my boys and those are my girls! Me and her been dating for 9 months. I've learned to brush haterzz like you off my back for years. I think you're jealous. I'm also not from the Jersey Shore! I grew up in Newark!

You're sure, eh? I'm not picking on you, man, but this is baseless speculation. You have extensive sports psychology experience? Your optimism is endearing, but I'd say it more likely that people don't change.

So you don't believe in redemption? What type of degree, experience do you have to decide if someone can change or not? John Lucas was a drug addict and he turned his life around is now a respected coach. THe people who change, do it because they want to change. The reason why some people never change is because they make excuses or decide not to change. No one on this board is qualified or even knows the guy personally to make a judgement either way.

I am sure that KOC has done his due diligence and asked around. Even with that there is no guarantees that Tinsley will play well, behave or work hard but the guy has talent. He is a very good passing PG. I don't know if he has anything left but he has talent. The person who said he isn't better than Price doesn't know what he/she is talking about. Price is more athletic but Tinsley is head and shoulders a better PG.

I am sure money was an issue and I would be shocked if the whole contract is guaranteed but if the can still play I think he is a solid back up.

I can barely remember what Tinsley looks like on a court. I'm not wild about the idea, but we would be getting a guy intensely motivated to perform. I'm sure he misses NBA paychecks a lot and, at 33, he's only got a few years to make NBA money. So you know he's going to play hard.

So you don't believe in redemption?
I believe in redemption.

What I don't believe in is a 33-year-old point guard who averaged <40% FG for the last 3 years in the league--and for his overall NBA career. His A/TO ratio was good in Indy, bad in Memphis (588 minutes in 2009-2010).

At least his steals rate and FT% are decent. May he disprove my skepticism with the rest of it.

'Redemption' is the exception, not the rule. I know the kind of influence Tinsley has been, and I know I cheer for a team full of kids. Got a problem with my problem?

Relax, word is, whoopi Goldberg will br his personal coach and knock some sense in to him.

i remember him as a good player, but isn't he a selfish player? I don't know how much he can help coming off the bench, i hope he don't mess the team up even more

I don't know either way on this. I guess I'll just have to trust that management knows what it's doing.

I like the move. They'll be paying him nothing I'm sure. I've always contended Jazz need a backup PG who can consistently break down their defender, get in the lane, draw 2 defenders and DISH. Tinsley can do that - at least he used to be able to. If he proves he can't I'm sure he'll be taken out of the rotation, if not cut completely. I haven't read through any of this thread, but since it's 10 pages long I'll assume it's a bunch of people crying about the move because they only see the surface and don't understand how basketball works.

I'm anxiously awaiting to see what else KOC does before the season tips. Ensuring Raja Bell is no longer on the roster is No. 1 on my wish list.
