David Aldridge: Jazz come to terms with Jamaal Tinsley

If the argument that Tinsley is better than Price is because - despite having a body that has been rapidly declining, has an atrocious off-the-court history, never having been good to begin with, and never having been a good shooter to take the edge off of his inability to beat anyone - Tinsley is the better pure PG, then let's just go back and re-sign Stockton.

No amount of an ability to pass can make up for a guy that can't shoot and can't beat anybody (which probably means he also can't defend anybody either). Grab Kevin Kruger. At least he can shoot and isn't a turd. Or Jaycee Carroll. Or Ronnie Price. Or Kyle Weaver.

Price can't beat anybody off of the dribble, can't shoot, can't pass, makes way too many bone headed defensive plays/fouls, can't freaking dribble good enough to be PG and especially can't pass off of a dribble without a TO happening. Price is NOT a PG. I would rather let Burks handle all backup PG minutes than re-sign Price. At least he might have some PG skills, Price has none.

Now @espn700bill is reporting "a well placed source" has told him a deal is imminent for @Earl_Watson to return to Jazz.

Earl Watson is in Utah and looks to be rejoining the Jazz, but another source told me there's "nothing official yet."

I see Tinsley as a probable contingency plan in case we somehow failed to bring back Earl. Probably not a good idea to just wait around for a player that could go somewhere else. Then again, I'm not expecting this team to make a lot of noise this year anyway, so I just don't see this as that big of a deal.

ROFLMAO get rid of your hate Ronnie Price is good. But, KOC is bringing us McCloud and Tinsley. He is HORRIBLE!!!! LMAO

So if we sign Watson and Tinsley, does that make it so Price does not come back? If so I love the Tinsley signing.

Um...he's right. Price is solely an energy/hustle player that can jump and has a really good attitude. Tinsley is a better point guard, even if he can't shoot, which would mean he's in the same class as Price in the shooting department.

Can Tinsley do anything better than Watson? Both play good defense, both are good with the pick-and-roll. Watson is definitely quicker, a better shooter, IMO. Tinsley may be more physical, but that's not a huge thing - Price is physical too...

Sweet. We're now completely mediocre at the PG spot. Should have just signed Billups instead of those two.

Would Billups have selected Utah?

Utah would have to be under the cap to bid on Billups, but we're not. If we were, we could put in a bid to claim him off waivers. We'd have to have the winning bid, and even then, he is threatening to just retire if a team claims him that he doesn't want to play for.

In other words, Utah is hell and gone from being able to "just sign him."

I don't mind a Harris, Watson, Tinsley trio for this season. Watson can be an emergency starter if/when Harris misses games. Tinsley was playing pretty well in the D-League. Darkwing is correct: Price was strictly a high-energy guy. He's always been a shooting guard (albeit one who can't shoot) in a PG's body. Obviously we need an upgrade for the future, but I think that happens either at the deadline or in the draft.

Love this trio of point guards. If Watson and Tinsley are as good defensively as some of you guys (who know more than me) are saying, then it can be some good ammo for Corbin if Harris gets lazy on that end of the court. Ty should make a point early on to emphasize defense, defense, defense. I'm not worried about Favors, or even Kanter too much in this regard, but driving the point home with Big Al and Burks may be needed and could pay huge dividends in the long run.

Are there details on Tinsley's deal yet? Is it a guaranteed contract or is it non-guaranteed camp invite for the minimum?

No info. I personally suspect it's non-guaranteed, otherwise I don't know why they would be bringing McLeod to camp.
