David Aldridge: Jazz come to terms with Jamaal Tinsley

Players mature with age. Especially when they aren't able to get a contract in the NBA and have to go to the D-league.

To say someone has achieved redemption required proof. So far, Tinsley has.

I have no shame in calling a spade a spade, however. That Tinsley grew up at 33 doesn't change the garbage human being that he was most of his life.

Did you know him growing up or at any point in his life? Those are some pretty harsh sentiments and you've articulated it at least 20 times in this thread alone. What's the story here?

General observations:

1. He looks good in a green #6 uni
2. He is in shape
3. He has the ear of the players on the team
4. He has a really great nickname we should embrace: The Abuser
5. He runs the offense
6. His name is spelled Jamaal
7. He has done nothing in Utah to suggest that he anything other than a good person and a good teammate, in fact he, Earl Watson, and Josh Howard have been putting on a clinic about how to conduct yourself with class and professionalism. We are lucky to have guys like this on the team right now for the young guns to watch and learn from.

Spray me with the Magic coach... I agree 100%

Currently watching gs game. Tinsley looks impressive considering the minutes he's had.

My iPhone agrees, it attempted to spell check and change Tinsley to Tinseltown!

I have not a shred of good to say about this. This is an absolute **** move. Jamaal Tinsley is one of the biggest degenerate pieces of crap that has EVER come through the NBA.

New CEO, new coach, no identity, no culture, so we the Jazz have decided to pursue JOSH HOWARD AND JAMAAL TINSLEY and kick Watson to the curb?

This is a **** move. Absolute garbage.

Good call.

You're sure, eh? I'm not picking on you, man, but this is baseless speculation. You have extensive sports psychology experience? Your optimism is endearing, but I'd say it more likely that people don't change.

Another win for Cyrone Torbin over NAOS.

Wow, that's quite a rush to "proof"....
Is your problem the fact that I problematized your optimistic, obviously over-simplified psychology on a guy who has a long-*** wrap sheet? You should have better things to do. This is a wonky signing, and your rushing to the apologist side of things so quickly is the odd thing here, not my non-reductionist psychology

Winning over NAOS is so fun.

Bragging that Jamaal Tinsley has been very good this year is like bragging that you know a guy that put everything on green and won.

It's not common for people to reverse course later in their lives than earlier, and Jamaal Tinsley sucked two years ago when he was a fringe player and got even older. No one really knows why Indiana banished him from team facilities, but everyone can know that they paid him around $20 million just to be rid of him. Most people in Indiana think or thought he was a douche.

I'm stoked he doesn't suck, and he's probably my favorite player on the team right now. For the ****ing however many times I've had to say this already. So here's one more.

The next time the Jazz go out and sign a guy that's in his mid-thirties, was never that good, basically hasn't played in years and years, and has a really bad reputation, I'll be sure to do the proper thing and be excited that the outcome is certainly going to be that he'll come back and play at just about peak performance.

Well one would assume that a guy like KOC isn't going to go out and get a problem veteran. I had faith he had done his research and checked out Tinsley's personality and motivations. Also, when you have been black balled out of the league (making millions of dollars) and go to a Dleague contract of 25k, I would assume you have motivation to be a good boy.

I don't disagree. But Jamaal Tinsley's resurrection is a complete anomaly. Like hitting on green. But kudos to KOC, it was a shrewd move that has paid off.
