What's new

Mountain Monta Ellis

Steve Francis, Marbury…..all those dudes.

Every generation has a few Donovan Mitchell’s.
None of those guys led his team to a playoff series win in his rookie season. Hell, nobody had done that since Wilt.

None of those guys had a winning record all 5 seasons to start a career.

None of those guys were 3 time all stars through their 5th year.

None of those guys are top 5 all time in playoff scoring per game.

You guys criminally underrate Donovan Mitchell.

Let me ask you a question. do you go with Rudy when he gets traded or do you guys pursue a long distance romantic relationship?
Id still be a Jazz fan first and foremost, but if Rudy got on a great team that was fun to watch I might switch up for a bit if Don is still on the team and the Jazz are just mediocre.

I've put enough years into being a jazz fan to be allowed a break. Wanted to take one when Dwill got traded but watching those Nets teams was awful.

On board for sure, and mostly agree... But then what do we call the $40M+ guy that cries to the media for offensive touches then makes a complete fool of himself over and over if said touches are not given within 1 foot of the rim?

Both guys are woefully one-sided. The real problem is the lack of real serviceable two-way players to fill in their deficits. Hard to win when your starting PG puts up a donut and can't stay in the game.

DPOY x3

What about Mountain Mike Bibby?

Yeah I'm talking about our 20mil "star" PG who scored a dud then got owned by Rick Brunson's son last night

Who is a good comparison? How do you see Mitchell's career trajectory going?
Dame. Dame is a 6 time All Star and one of the best 75 players of all time. He has been an All NBA player. He's been to the playoffs 8 times but only made it out of the 1st round 3 times.

Donovan has clearly surpassed Dame's first 5 years. I think he will meet or surpass him by the end of his career.

Deron Williams

1. Utah Jazz makes a star out of them by drafting them right away putting together a team custom made to highlight their stregths/hide their weaknesses.
2. They have some success (mainly scoring) but are not quite good enough to lead a contender. Still they have a fervent following among Jazz fans that have an inferiority complex yearning for a 'cool' african american 'star' that 'puts the team on the map'.
3. Even though they are supposedly 'playmakers' and 'team leaders', they don't share the ball and isolate their awkward foreign defensive specialist teammate that was a major reason the Jazz were a playoff team to begin with.
4.They get traded to a NY area team and get exposed.
5. Within a few years they play themselves out of the league.
6. They try to stay relevant by getting their head bashed in in a 'celebrity' MMA/boxing match by another C-rated has-been.

Joking aside, I think Mitchell is smart enough to avoid the last step but everything else is one of the more likely career trajectories, esp. if the Jazz front office do the right thing this off season.

I think Mitchell's ceiling is a step below AI at this point. Instead of "practice? we talking about practice?" it will be "defense? we talking about defense?" And at this point I am beginning to doubt he gets to the finals, hence a step below AI in the long run.

I am afraid we have seen this show before.
