Top Gun: Maverick

Went and watched it Friday night because I had nothing else to do after finishing work... First time I have seen a near full theater since Covid with an obvious buzz in the audience the second the movie started. Best movie theater experience I have had in a long time.

Tom Cruise is truly the last true movie star and his stamp is all over this movie. Both in the the way it was made and shot. Unlike all the Marvel movie CGI puke fests on rails I get dragged to, this was truly a fun movie and overall very well done from an aviation standpoint. I already have plans to do some grilling this weekend and go watch it again.

fantastic movie. Other than a few cheesy parts that American film has to include as a mandatory part of the contract it was excellent and a worthy sequel

Oh.. would/do they do all their stunts? fly their own plane in movie? Would they have asked that the other actors train and fly in F/A-18's for the movie? Tom Cruise is badass and had this movie made the right way. Sorry I just think he is on another level, a dying breed if you will.

Watched the old Top Gun in preparation. I really love that movie and its soundtrack, the volleyball scene, etc. I sometimes miss the 80s (my 20s). I'd live that decade over again if I could. Good times.

If you liked the original you will love this one. I think alot of mega fans got emotional on a couple parts haha. I liked the original even if it is a little cheesy. It is defiantly a product of its time but a classic.

That's cause he's free of thetans dude... Doubt the studio's insurance lets him do all his own stunts. I used to find him unwatchable, especially in his early films but I liked that one where he played a drunk ninja and Edge of Tomorrow.

Your right.. they didn't let him fly the F-18 or touch the controls... As an aviator I'm sure it took him a minute to get over that, SO CLOSE!. He was the only actor in the film that did a carrier launch though.

Well he is a civilian... Its pretty funny looking back on some of the Hollywood stars of the 50s and 60s a bunch were actually veteran's who saw front line action.

David Niven comes to mind, Jimmy Stewart, Charles Bronson, there's a bunch that served.

Made some good movies because of their experiences. Like Jimmy Stewart in 'The Spirit of St. Louise' for example. His aviation experience made him that much more authentic.
