What's new

Donald is about to go through some things...

The FBI's raid on Donald Trump's Palm Beach resort was based on information garnered from an informant, according to an exclusive report from Newsweek.

The informant was reportedly able to identify which "classified" documents were in Trump's possession and where to find them. The FBI raid was reportedly timed to take place while Trump was away.

"FBI decision-makers in Washington and Miami thought that denying the former president a photo opportunity or a platform from which to grandstand (or to attempt to thwart the raid) would lower the profile of the event, says one of the sources, a senior Justice Department official who is a 30-year veteran of the FBI," Newsweek's report stated.

Some pretty good stuff here:

Former President Donald Trump may lose the "crown jewels" of the heir's corporate empire if New York Attorney General Letitia James moves to invoke New York's "corporate death penalty" against the Trump Organization, according to a new report.

The investigation focuses on whether the Trump Organization essentially kept two sets of books. He allegedly would low-ball values to avoid taxes, while high-balling values to secure loans.

"In the coming weeks or even days, the AG is expected to file a massive, long-threatened 'enforcement action' — essentially a multi-hundred-page lawsuit against the Trumps and his Manhattan-based business," Business Insider reported Wednesday. "Fines and back taxes, however, may be the least of what Trump's facing. James has signaled she will also seek the dissolution of the business itself under New York's so-called corporate death penalty -- a law that allows the AG to seek to dissolve businesses that operate 'in a persistently fraudulent or illegal manner.'"

"This cuts right to the crown jewel of his real estate portfolio," Snell said.

"It's everything, because at issue is Trump Tower [where the Trump Organization is headquartered in Manhattan], at issue is 40 Wall Street, which is one of his most beloved properties and probably one of the more valuable ones," Snell explained. "All of his golf courses are also at stake, so it's a big deal."

On Twitter, Snell explained why it was so important that Trump took the Fifth Amendment.

"This is a civil case — so the court can draw an inference of liability. This is exactly what the AG was hoping to achieve. The case is now even stronger," he wrote.

"In a civil case, pleading the Fifth is effectively a confession," Snell claimed.

Snell added, "It’s worth remembering that the NY AG is 2 for 2 so far in bringing Trump to justice — on Trump University and the Trump Foundation."

So essentially the reason to plead the 5th in a civil case is to avoid criminal charges in a separate criminal case, as doing so is generally detrimental to your civil case?

Quite unhinged.

People tend to get unhinged when they are afraid. Many conservatives are afraid. After the wire-tapping of their candidate when he was a candidate, the lying on FISA warrant applications, the text messages from a senior level FBI investigator to his paramour that they will stop Trump from becoming president, and reliance on a fake dossier, the FBI's credibility took a big hit. When it became known the DOJ had direct involvement in the crafting of a letter to use anti-terrorist tools against parents who complained at school board meetings, it brought the fear a little closer to home.

The FBI just conducted a raid of the former President of the United States over what is essentially overdue library books. You may think it was over a greater crime but you don't know that because the FBI doesn't believe it is answerable to the people. There has been no press conference explaining this action, or any action recently. What used to be handled by FBI press conference is now handled by releasing a prerecorded video statement to make it impossible for the press to ask questions. No one knows where Merrick Garland even is right now. President Biden will occasionally answer a question but only if it is scripted and from a designated "reporter" for which the answer can be projected in a teleprompter. For any other questions, Biden turns his back and walks away. The administration's new press secretary has a prepared binder of lines she is allowed to speak and when asked a question that isn't in the binder she will say "I have nothing for you".

This administration has made it clear they can do anything they want, they appear to be politically biased in their use of force, and they are answerable to no one. You may think it is pretty great right now because it appears that your guys are the ones holding the guns and proving they don't have to answer questions on how they use them but you may want to go easy on the glee at how afraid they've made half the country.

And don't forget the terrifying conspiracies!! Stealing our babies for sex orgies!! Bringing in millions of illegal voters who somehow got ballots and "mailed" them in, stealing our elections!!! And don't get me started on that ridiculous "round earth" ****!!

I wish they could take this fear and use it to empathize with the fear black/trans/homosexual people feel on a daily basis. Then perhaps they'd be a little less judgmental about protests for these groups. Instead, all I ever hear from conservatives is excuses for white violence and condemnation of less violent protests by BLM/trans/homosexual people.

Releasing the warrant would expose Trump to the accusation on the warrant, for which Trump has not been convicted. It would treating Trump with less dignity than it treats other suspects. I find it incredibly ironic that you insist the FBI prove they are not anti-Trump by taking actions that would be anit-Trump.

By contrast, Trump could release the full contents of the warrant. He doesn't seem to want to. If it were just "overdue library books", why won't Trump release the warrant?

Just like any other search warrant. Trump is being treated like any other citizen.

You may think it is pretty great right now
I was a critic of the FBI during the Clinton, Bush, and Obama administrations. You are new to the field. The FBI has always been (and still is) a bastion of conservatism and a ruthless enforcer of the status quo. You're just now experiencing what liberal groups have been going through for decades.

It isn't a conspiracy theory when they do it in front of dozens of cameras while brandishing assault weapons to make sure everyone can see how real this is.

So, now you think there is a difference between having an assault weapon and having a handgun?

Yeah that is also called "legal", but I know that crowd has a problem with how "legal" is defined, especially when they find themselves on the wrong end of the stick.

To me this is far more damning than the other issue where he is invoking his 5th amendment rights. The warrant has to be based on evidence and reasonable suspicion. It isn't something made up. And it is something that will be public record. He could simply release it without saying anything else to show how "phony" it all is. But if it isn't phony, then he definitely doesn't want it released.

It probably is legal. Lawyers are very good at figure out ways to do things. That doesn't mean that I don't find it deeply concerning that the FBI is refusing to provide any information to oversight committees even behind closed doors. It isn't so much that they did it that concerns me. It is that they don't believe themselves to be answerable to anyone including congressional oversight committees who are legally entitled so that information.

This is a really good post. The FBI has a long history of what you’re talking about. We really need to emphasize more history and talk about what life has been like in America for marginalized groups. There’s an entire history there that hasn’t been explored by many Americans. Unfortunately, such studies are being banned by conservatives. Too bad

Lawyers don't make things legal, they work on the periphery of legality for the most part, imo. It is the law that makes it legal, as determined by a judge.

Afraid of electric vehicles, 5g, voting machines, blm, antifa, minorities, immigrants, bill gates, windmills, vaccines, masks, progress, etc. i could go on all day.

Maybe they should stop listening to fake news media. It seems to make them afraid.
