Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

Even if one or more of the players we got in the Minnesota trade are involved in this trade and it can't become official until September 6th, couldn't they still agree to it and announce it before then? It seems like other trades have been announced well in advance of actually becoming official.

Yes, but I’m thinking it would likely come a few days before like on the 3rd or 4th.

Yeah, me neither, but KOC mentioned it.

Basically they are just buying low on Randle by shipping out the often injured Myles Turner and they get a flyer on Reddish/Reeves with a 1st rounder from Dallas this year.

The Jazz could also include more pieces to Indiana if they needed more. Someone like Vanderbilt could interest them.

What about the original Hield/Turner package but they get Bogey and other players plus a first?

Bogey doesnt make sense for them.

I think the Pacers are going to want guys who are youngish, but ready to compete now.

Bogey is too old for them and is an expiring contract.

And the whole point of including them in the New York trade is so NYK has someone to take Randle so they are more open to unloading all their picks and becoming a team that can create a lot of max cap-space in the coming years.

Maybe Indy/Uta/LA can do a 3 team deal, but no one Utah can give them has the All-Star upside Randle has.

I'm a lot less interested in the Knicks picks if we help them offload Randle. Them choking on that contract is the secret sauce.

If the Pacers did the trade I proposed their depth chart would be like:

Haliburton/McConnell
Hield/Mathurin/Reddish
Duarte/Brissett/Reeves
Randle/J.Smith
Bitadze/Jackson/Theis

And they would have 3 first round picks (Boston's/Dallas/Their own) in 2023.

Obviously Randle sucks and we here dont like him, but maybe Indiana thinks they can do something with him. That's a team deep with interesting players and a lot of room for flexibility plus 3 picks in a loaded draft.

Indiana is one of those teams who isnt going to value cap-space because they dont think they can sign anyone. Randle might look like an opportunity to them.

The secret sauce is just them striking out in free agency and not getting a top 20 guy to join Mitchell, or just general bad injury luck.

They will get off Randle eventually one way or another. He isn't that bad of a player and his contract will look mild two years from now.

If helping facilitate NYK getting off Randle gives you 6 unprotected picks from the Lakers/Knicks you do it, plus you get RJ.

I’ve seen Randle to the Suns thrown around locally online for salary and their 2023 1st. Maybe he doesn’t have negative value to some teams I don’t know.

Too many parts to announce early if it is that big… as @Elizah Huge mentioned maybe a day or two in advance.

He's 1 year removed from being 3rd team All-NBA.

He probably still has some believers. I dont think anyone is giving up a pick for him though.

Indiana is essentially getting paid (depending on how much you value Myles Turner) to take him in my proposal.

One thing to note on Randle… There is apparently a really good relationship there with Wes/Leon/Julius. Was listening to a Knicks pod and got the impression that Rose would be hesitant to move him… especially if it wasn’t for something good. Will send the Twitter handle of the Knicks guy… name of the pod is Bad Weather Fans pod. He’s super rational. Anyway he may be in the Brunson camp of guys for the Knicks where it’s family and Randle may only get moved if he wants to or if they got something for him.

Yeah, I think they could get off him eventually. Plus I think people here think the Knicks are so stupid that they would hinder all of their ways to get better in the future. We aren’t going to get ALL of their picks and pick swaps and young players.

No idea on what Pacers are doing… they are confusing. I do think they’d likely rather roll with Turner than take on Randle.

Based off the media guys here in Indy, they are definitely thinking about competing vs tanking. I think they know Turner is gone after this year, and would like to get something for him. I have no idea what they think of Randle.

Turner has been in constant trade rumors for the past two years and is an expiring contract.

Is he going to want to stay? Does Indy want him to stay? Goga BItadze seems pretty promising.

They seem like a team who could like Randle.

I’m thinking we end up with RJ in this deal. It just a makes too much sense on both sides.
It really does... unless they move Randle. On court there is only one ball. Cap wise if they extend RJ it will be hard to do anything in FA. If they can send less draft comp it makes them more flexible for other deals.

For us gives us decent developing player to watch. We can still get the upside of a couple picks and we can then use pick swaps in 25/27/29 with the minny pick to get the upside of the Knicks potentially sucking.

Leon didn't draft RJ... so he isn't necessarily attached.

I could see it but they should move Hield too. Some kind of deal where they move both and get Randle is interesting for sure.

They also were in on Ayton... and yeah... Turner has been on the trade block forever. I think they like the kid they drafted last year too.

I think they would part with Turner for sure... but I doubt they like Randle... its also hard from my perspective seeing any smart team lining up to take Julius.
