What's new

Game Thread Game thread calendar doesn't show a game today but we play the Nets

Added to Calendar: 01-20-23

We literally just beat Cleveland. We have beaten Memphis and New Orleans multiple times this year. We beat Denver and we have lost by one possession too many times to count against good teams.
Once again they were missing key players. The cavs lost Allen in the 1st quarter. Memphis was missing Jaren Jackson both games and Ja missed one and Banes missed the other. New Orleans was missing Ingram in all 3 games. The Denver game was the 1st game of the year and well before Murray had shaken off the rust. To this point in the year we have not beaten an actual really good team.

Same with any bad team. Maybe you havent noticed this but pretty much every team every night is missing a key player. Teams are almost NEVER healthy.
Jazz were missing a starter tonight. Donovan was out for cleveland tonight. Gobert is out (and KAT). Steph missed a bunch. PG13 and kahwai are always out. Booker. Cp3. Anthony davis. Durant. Zion. Ingram. Ball. And on and on and on and on.

Its just the way the nba is today.

There is a big difference between missing a star player and missing a starter. I'm just saying that we actually haven't beaten a really good team this year when they were at full strength. It is just a fact so it doesn't make any sense when people say we have beaten really good teams. This year because of injury there really aren't many teams that have been really good.

Ingram hasn't played all season and the Pels were still the top of the West when we swept them. They only fell from that when they lost Zion as well.

The Grizzlies have been missing players all season and have still consistently been near the top of the West.

We beat the Cavs at full strength - they've been in a slump with Mitchell missing time but they still have the 4th best point differential in the league.

The Pelicans haven’t had Ingram basically all year and we went 3-0 against them. You are using injuries as an excuse but we didn’t have Lauri for the Philadelphia game and lost by one possession.

Lauri finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds. He was 6/10 from 3. It is a ****ing travesty that we didn’t get him the ball more.
This is one reason I could get aboard for trading Clarkson. Laurie should be the first option with JC being the the emergency valve, but as long as he's here he'll be taking most of the possessions.
Don't get me wrong, I really like JC but it's time to put Laurie in the driver's seat.

What was our game plan tonight? Just Chuck up as many 3s and possible as hope some of them went down? Why didn’t we tell everyone to play like Sexton and get to the cup? Why didn’t we even attempt to post up our two 7 footers and take advantage of our size down low? Why are Vando and Gay combining for nearly as many FG attempts as Lauri? And did anyone on the staff realize that Kyrie was pretty good tonight and that they played Ben Simmons for 37 mins? Why not trap the hell out of Kyrie and force Simmons to actually *gasp* shoot the ball? Take a page out of what teams do to Gobert and implement it against Simmons.

Just a frustrating game that makes me look forward to football this weekend. Everyone tries to play like the warriors and it usually just ends up being ugly basketball… JC, Conley, and Beasley combined for 7-21 from 3. Splash bros they ain’t. Maybe JC shouldn’t shoot more than our starting frontline?

Simmons and Claxton did a good job on him. If Ben would have got the whistle he did last night he’d have fouled out in the first half though… he was very handsy.

But yeah… lots of Rudy Gay mid post action tonight… was hilarious cuz Nets kept doubling… wyd Vaughn?

Ben made a pass tonight under the rim and there was a shot clock violation… Boler praised him for the extra pass… and then it hit me… that is the perfect nickname for Ben…

You know the answer, the truth… may I introduce you to the extra pass.

Yep. I thought they should reduce the season to 72 games, but they are already just playing 72 games just not all the same 72 games.

Yeah Simmons defense on lauri is legit limited his impact offensively. Hardy probably called for more iso.

Nets have an elite defender, elite PG and a unicorn. We don't have any

This Nets team is probably one of the worst teams for us matchupwise.

Claxton vs Kessler, Simmons vs Lauri, Kyrie vs Conley.

Kyrie has had hot 4th quarters lately. Yesterday he also scored 21 in the 4th @Suns and the 4th quarter score was almost identical at 38-23. Suns barely survived despite going into 4th with a 20 point lead.
