The Rest of the Season Plan - Kind Of

Porter isn't good anymore. Like at all. Rudy Gay is better. Seriously.

And Rudy gay was part of the rotation last year. That is the posters concern

A lineup with Sexton, George/Clarkson, Dunn, Lauri and Kessler can play both ends at a high level and finish games. The question will be what happens when the starters come out and the bench has to try to make up ground. This is where we'll miss Olynyk and Fontecchio, as well as Ochai's defense.

It's our bench production that's about to deflate our win total.
We also got rid of three guys who were inclined to play team ball.

We go rid of none of the ball hogs.

Show your work.
Show stats that Simone and Ochai pass the ball more often than Dunn, sexton, Lauri, keyonte and Clarkson.

Not saying passes made to passes received is the metric of team player, but since you asked. All three players passed slightly more than they received.

Unsurprisingly, Clarkson and Sexton have the largest deltas between passed/received, but that's their role

Jazz are trying to be patient and keep options open I feel. It can get frustrating as a fan because it feels like we are stuck in the middle but we obviously are not and can move in any direction with ease. We can trade Lauri any time for a haul. It would be completely dumb to do that now when he is wanting to be here and supports the plan for the team right now. If we cant get things going in a couple years than yeah, move him. We can easily make some trades for better players with our assets. But I think we are waiting for a big fish to become available or at least a guy we think can have a big breakout. Other than that maybe strike gold in the draft. At some point you are going to have to make some medium moves though if that doesnt happen. By eventually I mean next season either before the season or trade deadline.

My worry is that Jazz FO has convinced themselves Doncic is going to become available and we have a chance at him. While that is possible its more likely we hold our breath too long for a pipe dream.

The one thing where Jazz has been exceptional is reviving careers and developing players. In this sense, I feel very hopeful. We now have a few redemtion-projects that might make a comeback. Then again, I feel so disappointed for not having a clear direction for the remainder of the season. Also, I really felt that both Simone and Kelly could have continued with the ride for a couple more seasons and just see what avenues it would have opened.

If Jazz succeeds in signing Luka in free agency, that would indeed send shockwaves around the league. I am still a bit sceptical, even if Luka is a great player, whether he can ever be such a team-player that his team could win it all.

Thinking that a superstar like Luka may be interesting to land at SLC is beeing very optimistic. Those kind can mixed nice place to live with team able to win ( LA, Miami....), It may happen but for me very unlikely.
I follow the Grizz for near 2 decades and they got the same issue. Even when they got the core 4, they have been unable to get the superstar who would have make them win a title.
Small market can attract good players not superstar one.
I prefer to think that DA will improve the team next year with one or 2 good players , let's say Lauri level, continue to let the young guys improved and hopefully in 2 or 3 years, we may be able to contending.
I pretty optimistic about the strategy, just need to be patient.

Yep, I basically think it will more likely be the Lakers to sign Luka. I am pretty sure that he will leave Dallas after the season due to the bad management they have so I guess it will be an interesting race. Then again, if Luka values the roster-structure, he might actually opt in with the Jazz. Who knows.

I kind of think it is this kinds of dreams and speculations that will carry the fans over the remainder of the season after IMHO a disappointing trade-deadline.

"These guys thought they were going to fight for the playoffs. That’s why Jordan Clarkson opted in to stay in Utah, that’s why players have been understanding about changing roles and minute distribution and rotation experimentation."

"If players make decisions based on what they’ve seen over the last two seasons, they could believe that they will either be stuck after the trade deadline on a team that isn’t going to prioritize winning or possibly end up traded away to a non-contending team."

"I realize that we are only in year two of the Jazz’s rebuild and that expectations for this team were not any higher than the play-in tournament, but at some point the Jazz are going to need to start playing to win, even if at first it means middling success.

I hope that when they finally do decide to go for it, the players are still bought in."

SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHTS.

The article pinpoints perfectly the troubles with the approach is having, or could have

Its certainly a risk. We are straddling the fence and kicking the can down the road. This summer we need to form the roster and actually attempt to build a team that is more competitive in the medium term. There are some ways we can do it. I think this end of season will play a key part in that.

Also, these guys will get over it. Lauri will sign the re-negotiate and extend contract this summer if we offer... we absolutely should. I don't really care about the touchy feely JC stuff either. He stayed because we were his best monetary offer. If he had a better offer he would have bounced. In short "that's what the money's for!".

Now if we stay in limbo for the next 12 months we are kinda effed and I can see Lauri asking out. We still get a haul for him when we move him so Ainge is kinda in a can't lose position. I buy the line that we want to be better "sooner than later" but I also think it doesn't mean we will pay the premium needed for a STAR. I have some ideas/targets that I think could fit what we want to do... but I'm going to talk it out on the pod in the next few weeks.

Also, this "plan" I have does involve your guy Deni lol.

This roster has a Luka sized hole in it.

We would look pretty amazing with him

Guys... we ain't getting Luka. The set of circumstances that would make it happen are just too far fetched. Its a nice thought and is and "easy-button" but I think the star trade in this environment doesn't work for us.

I'm wondering who we go after in 2024. Free-agents include Maxey, George, Siakam, Holiday, DeRozan, Tobias, Quickley, Harden, Anunoby, Bridges, Klay, Hield, Jonas, Dinwiddle, Oubre, Melton, Wagner, Lebum, Bey, Toppin, Lonnie Walker, Grayson, Saric, and a ton of solid role players.
