There's a large part of me that wants us to match, but not to help the Jazz, simply to give the middle finger to Portland.

The best part of this is not matching isn't even a hard choice to make. It's sad to see Wes go, but we don't match AND, for an added benefit, we screw Portland in the process. This sends a nice message to the league as well. We value loyalty, but there are limits, and we make business decisions.

Tell me why we don't match it. He is an a great player and was just a rookie. Are you telling me you guys would rather have Miles,Jeffers and Hayward rather than a little pricey Matthews,Miles,Hayward.

If we don't match the offer, Jazz would be officially in re building mode and will lose Deron barring a miraculous 2011 off season.

I'm the only one but I want Matthews back

I like Wes, but not that much. It's a no in my book.

Indeed. I was probably his biggest fan last season but this is all-star money he's getting ready to get paid and he is only worth maybe half of that at this point in his career. The Jazz will be better off not matching unfortunately. On the plus side, we will probably be developing Gordon at a much faster rate than we are accustomed too and that is going to be very good for us down the road.

Here's the deal: I've came around to the idea that Portland wants Utah to match, so I'm starting to think that Utah may want to let Wes walk, but if Utah is willing to overpay for Wes, and the Miller family stays true to their word that they will continue paying the luxury tax as long as the team is contending, then they should retain Wes and go about building a contender.

The only way I don't like Utah matching the offer is if 2 or 3 years down the road our Front Office is crying about finances. However, it seems like I'm one of the few who feels that Wes could become an above average player for Utah if he's allowed to stay and I don't have a problem matching the sheet as long as the Millers realize that may mean more tax dollars out the window.
