Following Potential 2025 Draftees

You can't be that guy who simultaneously ***** on every draft pick but also **** on an actual player when comparing his value to a draft pick.

Compare Brice to the guys we can expect to draft from 42 to 53, then you can say he is worth that much.

Limited upside, limited tools, rough injury history, just abysmal defense, failed to establish himself as a starter on a 17 win team in his second year, constantly called out by his coach, was drafted 28th overall in the first place.... I would guess mid second round is his value.

I don't know, the shooting is quite nice. There were a couple of games where he was making every shot. The IQ is questionable but the shooting is legitimately great. I would want to give him more minutes/shots next year to see if it all comes together or if he could at least maintain his current efficiency.

That is worth more than a mid to late 2nd. Remember we got 5 seconds from end of roster guys Eubanks and Mills.

Those trades were more about taking in salary so other trades could work than Eubanks and Mills in particular.

biggest red flags on Coward (i'll admit i've bought in, but these things give me pause) are an inability to get to the FT line in the big sky (less than 3 FTA/gm) and the alarmingly low number of dunks (i think Cy mentioned only 13 dunks) in the Big Sky for a 20 yo.
Wouldn't that have been his age 20 season? Either way... at 21 its a no brainer for me. Stock numbers are good. Rebounds are good. I think he's a good athlete and just a huge wing.

I listened to his interview with KOC. The guy is a development staff dream. Humble and understands how to work. His Grandpa was actually a gold medalist in the 4x100 relay. He seems to understand he was working but not putting in NBA work and that is where his improvement has come from. I think he is gone by 21 but would do cartwheels if we took him there.

It is a bit of a gamble and obviously wish he played more than 6 games this year.

This is a good point, but he does have a career FTr of 36.6, so that's a good sign. He's also extremely efficient from 2 and especially at the rim. I have bigger concerns when both the FTr and Rim rate are low. If it's one or the other, I think it still shows ability to get to/score at the rim.

You are correct but then why should we value Brice as a mid 2nd if we can magic up 2nds from thin air/opportunity. Brice has a chance to develop into a real player with impact. We don't need to sell our guys short here even if they leave us wanting more.

I'm not saying to trade Brice, I'm just listing his projected value as there was a discussion about it before.

i edited to 20. but you're preaching to the choir. i'm just trying to be realistic and objective despite the fact that i love the dude as a prospect. the career 70% TS along with the elite length and athleticism has me salivating regardless of what league he played in.

Guys with his shooting and measurables generally aren't available outside the lotto. His backstory kind of makes sense to me in that he wasn't big on the AAU scene and took a break from basketball because he didn't like the situation he was in. Also isn't entitled in thinking he got overlooked he was like "I had to work harder than I was and I wasn't good enough". I just think whatever type of basketball player he can become on the high side... he will become because I think he gets it.

Anyone unfamiliar should listen to the KOC interview. He's self aware, mature, genuine.

No, wasnt me.

Only red flag I have on Coward is that he's never played well, at least stats wise, vs major conference teams. He had OK games last year vs Ole Miss, Cincinnati, and Stanford, but outside of that they are pretty bad, but he only had one game this past year because he got injured (Iowa, bad game).

But I anticipated him being really good this year, so he likely would have been fine.

I think Newell is a little underrated, but he is extremely boring as a prospect. John Collins with a messed up a finger.

I don't think he gives us much that Flip or Hendricks don't already give us. He's a defensive energy big who can play some 5, but isn't a 5 really. Fleming is probably more skilled and a better shooter.

The most normal thing for the Jazz to do would be to sit patiently at #5, order a half-sweet caramel latte, and let Tre Johnson fall into their lap. Then put Tre Johnson next to Lauri. If the Jazz are antsy about Johnson getting to #5, they can offer their 2nd rounders to Charlotte to swap picks. I wouldn't be in a hurry to take on Philly's problems unless they pay us well to do so. Lauri is younger, healthier, and likes Utah more than Paul George. If the Jazz can flip Paul George and get a meaningful, positive return, then maybe that factors in.

Unless the Jazz are all-in on Ace Bailey, it's really up to Philly to sell the Jazz on doing a deal.

The way Vecine talks about McNeeley it feels like they think of him as an almost Kon level shooter. I think there is some justification for that based on his pre injury numbers and him playing more on ball than he probably should have, ft%, and high school shooting numbers.

If McNeely really is one of the top 5 shooters in this class where should he go.

he's just never impressed me as a shooter. it's almost like he's getting a bump for being white, for being known as THE shooter on that montverde team and for having a really good stroke. i saw him multiple times at montverde and he rarely shot it well when i watched and he didn't shoot it well at UConn. but he does have the elite FT% - it's an encouraging sign. my biggest issue with him is that he looks so slow and plodding. but he has good size (if not good length), plays hard and was productive. i'd consider him mid-20s.

tough when you're known as a shooter and you're that inefficient shooting the ball.
