2025 Off-Season Trade Ideas Thread

I guess I see them at their peak as different player types... not quite to the level of the example I am going to give but difference between SGA and Sexton. That is an extreme example but teams sometimes pay extra for the premium version... but if the news is true I agree... I think there has been a shift in the market for expensive players... so yeah its not great if its real.

I have no idea how we approach things but I would still think we could get a couple picks for Lauri and that may not be represented in this news because it seems Nets are looking for something specific. Like if we moved Lauri to Det for 26/28 first and expiring salary is that less value than Cam + 19 for like 10? I could see both deals happening because its not a perfectly efficient market but if they are just looking for a move up deal then I wonder if they narrowed the market too much?

I think the KD trade will be the one that determines what happens with Lauri. Do we enter as a third team there and send him to Phoenix? I don't think Detroit does anything. I could see the Heat swing and miss and then pivot to Lauri. I'm ready to settle a bit but wouldn't do it for like just the Milwaukee pick and Dame or something like that.

Yeah I'd say that's pretty extreme lol. IMO, it would be more like Sexton and Fox if Sexton had just came off a better season than Fox did (maybe he did). Teams do pay for a premium sometimes, but I think it's tough to justify when you're only getting to the borderline all star level and the player type is also a complimentary player. Lauri is the best off ball player in the game, which makes him easy to fit next to stars on the court. But his contract makes it tough to fit next to star players on the cap sheet.

Giannis wanting to stay would be a huge bonus for the Jazz IMO. It opens up Lauri to SAS which is one of the better destinations and opens up a Dame trade which is a great destination for Collins+Sexton.

Sexton + Collins as a duo probably do more harm to the tank than Lauri alone. Wonder if you could pawn both of them off to MIA.

Last year I was more optimistic than just about anyone about our tanking chances, this year I'm actually worried if we keep what we have. Need to at least trade Sexton+Collins to offset natural improvement from the young guys. Think last year required a lot of luck and grimey stuff from above which I wouldn't rely on again. I'd be open to trading Key/Kesser if the value is right just in case a team values their current contract+production.

If Lauri's value is zero or less, I say we keep him. If he's playing you out of tank position, maybe you can then trade him. If not, we're in tank position and just keep him. But I want to make sure I'm in the 5-6 range, otherwise it gets uncomfortable on lottery night. But I think we'll do what's necessary if it ever gets close. If AA has to eat some **** for reversing his mic drop moment, so be it. Better to look like a fool for backpedaling than to look like a fool for losing your pick.

I'm with you on this one. I would try to move Collins, Sexton, and Clarkson this offseason, but if we couldn’t trade Collins and Sexton, I would trade Lauri (I’m pretty sure some teams would be interested). But if we can trade Collins and Sexton, I’d keep Lauri, and if he threatens the tank, I would trade him at the trade deadline.

I also challenged him a bit because he said his contract doesn’t affect his trade value compared to last offseason. I disagree completely.
I agree with Tony. Anyone who wanted Lauri had to be prepared to offer him a max contract.

So if you believe last season was a fluke due to tanking, then he should have equal value to a team that really wants him.

Yeah but his contract last season was infinitely easier to trade for than now.

Of course the large contract + poor play affects his value. It’s not a black and white thing where it does or doesn’t matter. It’s had some effect for sure. The mechanics of a trade are more difficult and the skepticism of that contract has also risen.

I don’t think we end up trading Lauri because nothing will be out there. That’s fine as long as we get rid of Sexton+Collins, but as a fan I think having Lauri rot and waste the prime of his career is disgusting.

If you traded for Lauri last year, you got one huge discount year during his prime, which is very attractive.

If Ainge had traded Lauri at the 2024 deadline, teams could have gotten two huge discount years, which would have been amazing.

If you trade for Lauri now, you get zero discount years.

He was worth 4 firsts from the Kings plus an expiring last offseason. Definitely more at the 2024 trade deadline.

His value is a mid first round pick right now, he will not be traded.

Don’t you get tired of saying the same **** over and over again?
