Following Potential 2025 Draftees

With this title in particular, people are going to have hot takes because it will definitely decide whether you can win like Indiana. Whatever that means. What I hate about the whole “can you win a championship with X” style of discussions is that we act as if alternative outcomes had zero percent chance of happening. If IND loses, it will doom them as if they had no chance and they might as well give up and tank. If they win, it will some how make them the perfect model for team building.
I have a podcast rant coming about the difference between models and methods but we have other stuff going on. Yes the overreaction is going to be wild but I think both what Indiana and OKC have done is great for non-destination markets.

Kon is exactly what that team needs.
Both guys... serious... team first. Kon has the shooting that would help and VJ plays defense and would be electric in the open court with how that team plays. They are in a pretty good spot, so watch em eff it up and take Jeremiah Fears.

I’m late, but just listened to the Leif-TJ pod. Interesting that TJ thinks Tre is definitely ahead of Ace/Kon/Fears on the Jazz board. I had always kind of thought that this was TJ’s personal opinion and not necessarily the FO’s opinion, but he was pretty direct. Right now it looks like Tre will be there and we’ll take him. I’m extremely annoyed by Leif and the other Tre stans, but I’d be ok with it.

FWIW, I actually think Fears has the most realistic path to stardom out of these guys. Also has the most risk of busting. His path to being an offensive hub is clear.

Kon and Tre have similar high end outcomes to me. Their realistic, high outcomes land them as borderline all stars. Kon looks like Bane, Tre more like Herro (sorry skin tone truthers). Either guy could go beyond that, but that gets into the unrealistic territory for which I don’t put too much weight onto. I like Kon’s medium and poor outcomes better, but I still think Tre is relatively safe. Just not my favorite type of archetype.

Every word of this. Well said.

Barlowe said he's continuing to hear Riley is cooking everybody in workouts and a team told him he's in their lottery. Said he heard from a team executive that he compared him to a shiftier Caris Levert (who is already pretty damn shifty).

Perfect. Someone take him before 21.

Honestly, AA's answer to how to build a team is boring but correct. You just have to keep making the right decision over and over again. No plan is going to work without a sequence of good decisions and of course a lot of luck. The Pacers tried to sign Ayton. The Raptors tried to trade Lowry to the Knicks. You need to be good, but also it's better to be lucky than good :)

Good post

Perusing Hornets twitter and fan boards, it’s sounding as though Charlotte may trade back from 4 if Edgecombe is off the board. Multiple teams want to trade up to draft Fears, as well as Ace. Brooklyn is one team trying to trade up and might be a candidate to take back Mark Williams, whom Charlotte wants to move. Charlotte likes Kasparas, reportedly, and they might also have interest in Maluach.

All of this could also be a smokescreen, while they end up taking Ace at 4.

It does sound as though BRK, NOL and WAS all have some level of interest in Fears. BRK and NOL allegedly like Ace as well.

Please note that I’m “expounding theoretically” here.

I'm reasonably confident that we're taking Riley at 21 and I'm so annoyed by the pick already that I've transcended into a sickos mentality with the pick.

That's right baby, take another shot creator with no role player potential who isn't good enough to be a shot creator in the NBA. We gotta take another guy who is just complete dogwater at defense. Ainge Jr and Sr huddled together with Hardy to find the worst defender they could get, the only one that could live up to the legacy of a 30th overall defense, and Will Riley was the guy.

We ought to TRADE UP to get Riley in fact, let's go.
