Following Potential 2025 Draftees

Question for JFC (since this is always a point of contention):

Are we categorizing Fears as "small"? He's 6'4 in shoes at 180 LBS with a 6'5 wingspan, and is one of the youngest players in the draft. Not out of the question he can grow another inch.

For reference, he is currently slightly smaller than Andrew Nembhard, but could easily be Nembhard's size in 3-4 years.

My best case scenario for the first pick is trading down with New Orleans and picking up Herb Jones and another future pick, then getting either Tre or Fears.

My focus would be to get the current vets (Clarkson/Sexton/Collins) off the team and replace them with mid 20's aged role players who are defense first to help build a defensive culture.

Would agree with this. "Smaller side" sounds right. Not tiny, and his slight plus wingspan helps, but he falls short of the "positional size" mandate we are striving for.

BTW - Indy and OKC are both great examples of the power of positional size.

180 lbs for his frame is very good weight, especially for his age and even more so when you consider his speed with the ball. For reference, he's 10 lbs heavier than Fox when he was drafted. Fox was also a full year older when drafted.

I wouldn't say I love Fears (ballhandling) or Tre (deep shotmaking) as prospects, but I do think they both have an elite skill that is amongst the best in recent memory.

The Jazz put out intel that Fears crushed his 2nd workout. I think it’s probably smoke. Otherwise, why put it out? The Jazz maybe trying to get Washington to trade up to 4 to draft Fears.

Not an elite passer, but an elite penetrator who can make passes.

Look... I can tell you the Fears stuff is not a smokescreen. Not to go all @bigmike on you... but the have real interest.

I think taking Fears at 5 would cause me to crash out. If we traded down for something fairly decent and then took him... I guess... but good hell Ainge has a type. Like there are other notes on the piano my dude.

Fears has probably spent more time mocked to the Jazz by Givony than any other player. You may not like him, but you've just gotta accept it as a real possibility at this point.

Fears has a 6'5" wingspan (horrible) and shot 28% from the 3 last year. I'll be so bummed out if he's the pick.

He had also had a game last season against Texas A&M where he went 0-5 from the floor, had 0 points, and 3 assists. It's crazy to draft a guy at #5 that's capable of scoring 0 points in a college basketball game.

Does size for initiator really matter? Like I know size can make it easier to initiate, but is it not more important to be a better initiator period instead of simply being a bigger one? In terms of size relativity, I would think that's most important to how he matches up on the defensive end.
