If the Jazz get Jefferson, trade Millsap for a C?

You’ve heard the name: Gortat.

We all know that if given a chance, Sloan’s going to throw a Millsap-Jefferson frontline at the Lakers. Great that Big Al’s an inch taller than Boozer but that PF-C combo will obviously be undersized again at 6-8/6-10, while Jefferson-Gortat will be 6-10/6-11.

Jefferson’s also similar to Boozer in that he’s a scoring PF who's also a mediocre-to-average defender, so he’ll need a defensive center alongside him. And yep, untradable Memo’s not a solution and probably better as off-the-bench shooting big, and also not a big believer of Kosta/Fes.

I’d really hate to see Sap go but he seems the tradable player to try to get this done, either straight up with Orlando if possible or a 3-way that sends him elsewhere and the Magic get the guy they want.

But, ironically, this new frontcourt pair will defend better--and probably score just as well. Whattaya know.

Last season, 82 games had Big Al playing about 2/3 C and 1/3 PF.

I thought of it and yeah, it does.

Half of this has to do with what happens to Millsap. Not whether Jefferson should start at C alongside Sap or who should come off the bench or whatever. This is about the idea of altogether changing that undersized Boozer-Sap combo used to close games with a new, taller pair at PF/C.
 
I am not sure why everyone is claiming we are so small with Jefferson starting at C. He's an inch shorter than Okur and has much longer arms.

We were planning on heading into the season likely looking at a Millsap/Okur starting line up and nobody seemed to care.
 
We don't have to trade Millsap. Gortat's salary is $6,322,320. The Harpring TPE is $6,500,000. Although this puts us way into the Luxury Tax.

BTW, ESPN's Trade Machine says trading Millsap for Gortat makes us 6 wins worse and Orlando 2 wins better. OTOH, using the TPE makes no difference to our record, but does make Orlando 2 wins worse.
 
The I don't understand is Boozer was a willing and good passer. He was also a very good pick and role player. Jefferson is neither of those things. If we are willing to play Jefferson for 3 years is that better than paying Boozer for 6?
 
Jefferson would give the Jazz a lot of flexibility and depth to both the PF and C positions. He can start at C until Okur is good to go. When Okur gets back, the Jazz can either go big with Okur and Jefferson, small with Jefferson and Millsap, or both with Okur and Millsap. Plus with AK able to play some pf, and Fes in the rotation if he re-signs... we should have plenty of depth and be in pretty good shape to handle any injuries that would occur throughout the season.
