Following potential 2012 draftees

I hadn't really seen Taylor play before, so I watched about 30 seconds of a highlight mix. Obviously he is nowhere near the caliber of player, but he reminded me of Paul Pierce. He looks like a good player.

WOW! I compiled the following and was surprised by the results. UK played Vandy head-to-head three times last season. It seems DLamb, DMiller, Jenkins, and Taylor are all in the 25 to 35 range, so I wanted to see how each of them did in those 3 games. The stats are slightly skewed because Jenkins and Taylor were almost the whole team for Vandy, but the numbers 'against' UK are impressive.

DMiller - 10pts, 3rbs
DLamb - 12pts, 2rbs
Jenkins - 17pts, 4rbs
Taylor - 17pts, 10rbs

Also, Jeffrey Taylor shot (from 3) 2/5, 2/5, 2/4 in those three games (40%, 40%, 50%)

EDIT: Kind of odd that he shot 42% from 3 this year, but only 60% from the line.

I think I value Taylor higher too, as well. But at (reportedly) 6-7 and with better quickness than toughness, and the ability to guard down (SG) not up (PF), that would still leave somewhat more of an overlap than a complement to Hayward, I'd think.

I think he'd be a tremendous complement to Hayward. The Miami Heat have good defenders at those positions and they are pretty good. They are quite a bit more athletic than a Hayward/Taylor combo, but perhaps the latter can develop significant skills and basketball IQ over a few years. Plus, the Jazz have someone like Favors in the post, and Burks can defend most point guards for sure. That would not be the greatest team in a half-court offense initially, and they might turn the ball over a few times, but that would be a tremendous defensive lineup. Kanter can fill out the lineup for all I care.

Of course, if you think Taylor is going to be a good player, he would be a good asset to have on the team anyways.

I like everything about Jeff Taylor, except his sudden shooting surge as a senior, and that he's got T-Rex arms. The latter point in particular bothers me when considering that Hayward's arms are pretty short as well.

I think Miller is more of a sure thing since his shooting can't be chalked up as a fluke and definitely has at least respectable length. But I basically see choosing between the two as a crapshoot.

That part bothers me as well. He shot sub 10% as a soph .. yikes. Anyway, I like all 4 of those guys .. DLamb because I think he's got the ability to play PG and has a career 47% 3pt award.

Sorry if this has already been talked about, but hoopshype.com is reporting that the Hornets are shopping the 10th pick, but whoever wants the pick has to either take on Ariza's or Okafor's contract. Is the 10th pick worth having if we have to take on one of those two players, and what would we have to give up? I'm thinking not much if they are wanting to dump salary.

I would take a serious look at Okafor and #10 ..

That's GST, TOR, CLE, NOH, and HOU all talking trading early picks (am I missing someone?).

Yeah, Lamb is an amazing shooter. He is kind of small though, and he's maybe not quite fundamentally developed enough (other than his tremendous shot) to play PG in the NBA at least for a while. I do think you could probably find a matchup that he could defend in most situations, but he's not very versatile defensively IMO.
He is decently quick, and his shooting cannot be overstated.

That's mostly fair, imo.

bbIQ - HAS IT, period.
Offense - as you said.
Defense - very solid, but certainly not elite (adequate? Yes.)

Not a whole lot of experience running point is a downside.
Not very athletic (I bet his vert is underwhelming).

Yeah, I've only seen him play two games. So I was hoping those were valid observations.

As for Jeff Taylor and his shooting surge if you look he improved every year it wasn't a surge. That tells me more of work ethic then a fluke. As for the long arms concerns me some he won't block a lot or get steals because of it but those stats can also create defensive problems. Taylor will be a lock down defender and be in position to rebound not out of position going for a block.

I would love okur and the #10. If they would take bell and Harris and maybe a future 1st I would jump at that. Then trade Jefferson and the gsw pick for iggy and wow jazz are deep and talented. Draft either lillard ar Marshall @ 10 trade up a little and get Taylor

Lillard, Watson, machado @ 47
Hayward, burks
Iggy, Taylor
Millsap, kanter, Evans
Favors, okafor, tomic

I like that line up. A little worried that kanter wont get as much playing time as needed but that is a championship team. Honestly

I'd find that exciting, but would worry about:
Lillard as lead guard -- even as a Weber grad, I can't see him having much winning-type success for a few years
Height -- athleticism seems good, but rather short at a lot of positions
Shooting -- good potential, but I think it will take Hayward/Taylor/Lillard a while to reach it
Iggy's health -- Philly boards almost always mention knee and achilles (I think) problems that seem to be chronic -- that's partly why they'll entertain getting rid of him

Hate to false alarm a story .. but I have heard the Jazz have made a deal (again, I know) with GST. Details may not come out until draft night. I wasn't told this, at all, but got the impression there's a 3rd team involved. Know nothing of substance, at all ..

This comes from a damn good friend/source.
