I never said God doesn't use Pastors to Pastor, teachers to teach, singers to sing, leaders to lead .. I simply said it's not a hardfast rule .. He'll use whomever He chooses, however He chooses, on an as needed basis.

To me, there's nothing more powerful than seeing an unqualified, uncivilized, and unworthy (in the world's eyes) being used mightily by God .. I believe He teaches us humility and reminds us Who is God.

I also have question for Mormons...

I have a coworker who is currently dating a guy who is coming back from his mission next month. He hasn't asked her to marry him, but she already bought a wedding dress, picked out flowers, colors, contacted photographers, etc. Is that...normal? I would be a little freaked out if I were the guy. He has no idea though.

You're not serious, are you? I'd tell your friend to go see a shrink, and I would somehow find a way to get a hold of the elder and let him know what he's coming home to.

People that are successful in the curent power structure tend to maintain it, rather than upset it. Most genuine radicals are either uneducated or disliked.

There needs to be order. Why did Christ call 12 Apostles when he was alive?
Why did we even have the Patriarch's of old?
Why did Abraham pay his tithes to Melchizedek?
Why would God command his people to build Temples?
Why would God give the 10 Commandments to Moses and have him pass them on if he could just give them to every Israelite?
Why would God send Jonas to Nineveh if he could just tell them all himself?
Why would God command Abraham to sacrifice Isaac as an offering, then change it at the last second?
Why would God only tell Noah there was a flood coming, when he could tell everyone?

There is a reason we are here, and there are things we need to learn and do while alive if possible.
There is a order to this life, and there is a order to God's church, and plan.

This life is not randomness. There is purpose, a plan, and there is order to it. The proper order will help us.

I challenge you to take on a large project.... say a Boy Scout Camp, and tell all the boys the purpose of the scout camp, and tell them the things that need to get done while they are there... then tell them they are all in charge.
Not much of the plan will happen.
If there are Boy Scout leaders that help remind about the plan, that help to organize and have order to what needs to happen and when, and remind the boys often of what is coming up..... the purpose of the scout camp is more likely to be achieved than if the boys are left to fend for themselves.

I'm not sure that's a perfect example, but it's all I have right now.

I was going to stay far away from this thread, but this was irresistible.

This equates God with the ultimate president/dictator.

When atheists or mystics say that concepts of eternity or 'other worlds' (heaven) are just misplaced disrespect for LIFE, this is exactly what they mean. Anything that isn't ordered is error/sin. God is order. I pledge allegiance to the flag.... Of course, no holy text explains all order, that's left for the Despotic State-Maker who controls interpretation of those texts.

So, God allegedly creates this universe. Well, we've learned enough this universe to know that it doesn't perfectly obey ANY SYSTEM OR ORDER (go ahead, ask a theoretical ecologist or a physicist... all 'laws' or 'systems' are approximations... they aren't perfect), and then I'm supposed to understand that God is order?

And, naw, I don't feel too concerned about being 'respectful' after the pantywad fest that broke out when I questioned a hyper-literal reading of the bible. I think the disrespect was on the other side of the table.

And, since I'm going for full disclosure, I have no problem admitting that I regard the text I quoted above as indicative of a general viewpoint that is dangerous to the world. Politically, ecologically, etc. (Not to mention how it is unable to explain any complex phenomena... I'm not exactly a defender of science, but this dude literally can't believe in 90% of what they say.)
 
NAOS - I have no real beef with what you wrote .. at all, actually.

Using logic (to our limited ability compared to that of the Creator of all things), why would God create us .. to then mandate all actions/communications etc? I doubt that. He is a true Father and like us hooman beans, wants to watch us grow .. like corn with personalities or something.

He instilled in us right from wrong, I don't believe he wants such order that it largely removes free will. Not that I believe He is an author of chaos, but I do believe he enjoys seeing us make decisions on our own, versus being constantly directed step by step.

Plainly said, would I want to dictate to my own children who they become as adults? No. I want the best for them, for them to be happy, but I want them to be them, not me.
 
I also love how the most religiously dogmatic posters in this thread have, at different points, wiped aside dissenting opinion (calling it disrespectful), and then proceeded to make derogatory comments about women. Amazing.

Not sure if that's me, but I am an equal opportunity offender, both here and in the real world. Having said that, I have ZERO chauvinistic tendencies and quite tolerant of most personalities .. I just enjoy the back and forth sarcasm.
