Hayward trade idea

According to ESPN, Lakers showing strong interest in NY Knicks' Shumpert to help with their backcourt. What if the Jazz offered Hayward + future draft pick (beyond 2014) to the Lakers in exchange for their 2014 1st rounder (unprotected) plus scrubs? We know Kobe thinks highly of Hayward, and he's a better all around player than Shumpert, right? Let's face it, in order to pry a prized 2014 1st round pick away from a lottery team, we can't be offering any garbage, it's gonna take our best player.

Like Colin Cowherd always says...the NBA is more prosperous when the "marquee" teams are successful (Celtics, Knicks, Lakers). Boston will probably make the playoffs in the pathetic eastern conference, the Knicks don't have a 2014 1st round pick, so that only leaves the Lakers. Call me cynical, but I could see the Lakers "miraculously" winning the lottery so that one of the League's flagship teams can get back on track as a championship contender.

Not only would such a trade help the Jazz tank get back on track, it also eliminates some of our ping pong ball competition.

Rigged lottery?

I assume you are implying that the system is rigged to help the Lakers. Assuming that is true and the Jazz owned the Lakers pick, why would the league do this?

Why submarine our rebuild for a hypothetical, more risky rebuild? Hay is a really good piece. We likely wouldn't get an equal piece back. We have Trey, Favors, Hay to build on--that's solid, and it would be stupid and reckless to knock a pillar out from under us just because of youtube conspiracy theories.

I agree.
Jazz are just a Wiggins, Parker, Randle, Embiid, etc away from being a serious contender.
Plus they get GSW pick and a #31-36 pick that makes the team.
Three great picks in 2014 and they might still get lottery picks in 2015.
Plus they have lots of money to spend.
Jazz are in great shape if they stay patient.

If the Lakers pick were owned by the Jazz, there would be no incentive by the NBA to rig the lottery...they don't care about Utah. Thus, hopefully, the lottery can be run as intended...all on the up and up.

Seems like Lakers would really want to keep their 2014 lottery pick.
No matter what they do this year they are not contenders.
If they can get a top five pick next year and Kobe recovers etc they might have a chance in 2014-15.
But they might still have a lot to do to get there.

The NBA Draft Lottery has evolved from the Commissioner pulling envelopes out of a spinning bin to today’s complicated ping-pong ball method performed BEHIND CLOSED DOORS overseen by the accounting firm of Ernst & Young — the pillar of integrity who recently settled with the feds, paying $123 million to squash a tax-fraud probe stemming from $2 billion in unpaid taxes.

I will lose my mind if i see Gordon in Lakers uniform. OMG! Even thinking of this gives me headaches and of course heartaches!
Hell no!!!

Stupid idea. Hayward is better then a mid first round pick. And Hayward under our new coach next year(assuming we get one and resign Gordo) would be extremely hard to replace. Also screw the lakers forever and always.

Adding Hayward to the Lakers may help them make the playoffs. Not worth it for the 18-20th pick.

So, if I'm understanding you correctly:

Hayward
Pick

For

Pick

?

First, the Lakers owe their pick to someone (on condition... top 14 or 20 protection or something).
Second, the Lakers will likely make the playoffs.

So you want to trade Hayward and a future pick in the 10-25 range for a pick this year in the 20-25 range?

The only good that could come from this is that it makes it more likely that GS misses the play offs.

The problem with your idea is that you are assuming that the Lakers wouldn't make the playoffs with Hayward. I think they would make the playoffs so that 2014 pick wouldn't be worth giving Hayward up. Another issue is that Hayward is a FA so the chance that the Lakers could/would extend him becomes an issue.

Good point, I didn't think about how it would affect GS. That still is a big chance that it might not keep GS out of the playoffs which would suck. Now if both LA and GS missed the playoffs and the Jazz were able to get three top 5 picks. It would be considered one of the greatest trade ever. Ok I was getting a little dizzy with that thought...

It would certainly ensure that the Jazz would be the worse team in the league.
