Countdown to a Letdown--aka Jazz trade deadline 2014

From Steve Luhm's Twitter: Jazz's Richard Jefferson sent home from practice with stomach issues. Game-time decision Wednesday. (Trade deadline Thursday).

Coincidence?

Incidentally, maybe the Jazz knew what they were doing letting Hornacek go and coach the Suns. It looks like they'll be a treadmill team, since they couldn't tank this season.

We didn't tank this season either bro.

We are a treadmill team without a good coach.

Not a rumor, but a trade idea made by a writer for Detroit. (Though he titles it as a rumor, which is annoying as hell)

Josh Smith and Stuckey for Jefferson and Biedrins.

Stuckey's deal is done after this year, so he wouldn't be a long-term piece.

Interesting idea. I've always hated Josh Smith, but no doubt it would be interesting. He has a lot of talent, especially when playing PF and not SF. Get a good coach in Utah and he could flourish.

Smith is toxic. Avoid.

Yeah, I would tend to agree. Crazy how dumb the Pistons are that they just signed him, it hasn't even been a full year and writers are already calling for a straight unload of him, not even wanting draft picks back.

Same story with the Villanueva and Ben Gordon signings. Everyone knew they were horrible contracts immediately

If the Spurs wanted to give it a shot, then maybe they have the culture/established hierarchy to make it work. As it stands, nobody that plays with Josh Smith likes him, Josh Smith doesn't like players he plays with or teams he plays for, and he refuses to believe that he's a worse shooter than Kyle Korver. The Jazz cannot take on a guy like that.

Yeah I'm pretty sure there is a rule that you can't trade 1st round draft picks in consecutive drafts. They wouldn't be able to give a pick for the 2015 NBA draft

Is the rule that they can trade in consecutive drafts in one trade or at all? For example, I thought teams could trade the 2014 pick in one trade and the then the 2015 pick in another, but they could trade 2014 and 2015 picks as part of the same trade. Not sure, just how I understood it.
