So apparently my attempted response before went into the ether/cosmos somehow.

I commented on my game with ECT, saying I used to play this start a lot in high school, against newbies mostly, and I could overcome the initial concession of the center with a careful defense in place, then while they wasted moves on the periphery I could assert control of the center.

I commented on your game with Log, saying it looked like something I have done a lot, but since decided when playing computers I can't afford to waste the move putting the bishop in that position only to have to retreat. . . .but wow, it looks like you might lose your knight now and then face a forked attack/check on the rook and the king with that bishop. . . .

I also said I think we might present an easier picture for novices to follow if we did a separate game thread for each match. . . .

well, we can just post the game on a new thread anytime, with the detailed move notations to that point, and the pic. . . .. for now I'm getting used to hanging out on one thread and being able to see the moves coming in.

I chose to go with a hyper-modern defense, which I do not normally play against queen pawn openings. I will almost always make that bishop move as the point of hyper-modern defenses is to engage on the wings, eschew large center pawn configurations, and sweep across the board putting pressure on the king. Also these openings can be good for black where black always starts with one less tempo than white, so aggressive play can get that tempo back. At least that is the theory. I have also been thoroughly schooled before trying to make my way to the mid-game from an unbalanced and unfamiliar opening line, but hey you never know. You inspired me to dust off some of the old crazy sets I played in my tournament days when I relied on a superior analysis of the mid-game to pull me from a tight spot. It may come back to bite me now. We'll see. Either way it's fun.

Bg5 was one of 2 of the better moves in this scenario. It is also expected when following the line, since most other moves would be time-marking moves realistically at this point for white, or pure defensive moves. If I were white in this position I would push the fight to black taking advantage of the open king side, as siro did. It was a good move.
 
looks to me like Siro has scored an advantage here.

well, I will be back I hope Wednesday night. I'll be interested to follow Siro and Log, for sure.

If babe had played e5 instead of e6 it would have been another way to get to the king's pawn opening. With ECTs last move it may still get to the king's pawn opening.

It's called the Closed Center Defense. It's very unusual at high-level play.

I thought about castling myself, but then figured given the threat on b4, and the fact that I have an advantage while you try to get your queen out, it just wasn't the best move...
