What's new

Chad Ford: Exum > Burke right now; rookie player that's most positively surprising

Trey has been shooting when open, just hasn't been making them. I wouldn't say he's forcing shots at all.

Coming out of college Trey was I think the best player shooting off the dribble % wise. Under Quin's system it's more: Pass - Receive - Catch & shoot. I just wonder if Trey is more comfortable shooting it off the dribble rather than catch and shoot.

which is telling, as it indicates that we should take your Burke criticisms with a grain of salt.
If you would like.

I have hardly been vocal about criticizing him this year as I try to stay positive about all of our young guys.
Mostly I have just said that he is shooting poorly.
If you want to take that when a grain of salt then I understand.... still true though

let's stop panicking and give this team some time to gel. we have new coach and new system. things don't click right away. and bad shooting early in the season is ok. if this continues by half way point than we should start panicking and reshuffle our line up. low shooting % is a concern, but there are low fg% everywhere. look at kevin love. hell, even bron who shot ridiculous % last year.

hopefully we see more positives than negatives.

but i'm all for trey/exum playing together. that's what i envisioned this team to be.

Agreed

Exum = raw Tony Parker. He can get into the paint whenever he wants.
Burke = Avery Johnson. Too short, can't create, and acts like he has leadership skills.

We should be shopping Trey. If we can package Trey and Kanter for a bag of chips and maybe another first rounder I'd be happy.

what's wrong with avery johnson? avery johnson would be a perfect backup PG for any team. if trey doesn't pan out then he will be our long term solution for a back up PG.

it's ok to keep players. if you think trey is that bad, then we aren't getting anything in return anyway. trey is very useful player.

i do not see tony parker at all from exum.

Tony Parker is probably my most hated NBA player ever. I ALWAYS hated the put your head down and run to the basket and flop hoping the refs would bail you out play, even if it was effective. That seemed to be his go to move. If that is how Exum develops I will be disappointed. He looks to have a little more jaw dropping "what did I just see!" to his game, which I really want from him.

And yes, I know Parker has expanded his game. Still hate him and his flopping though.

Exum not there yet, but yeah I can see the comparison :)

So was Hardaway always "there"? Could he be comparing Dante to a young, unfinished, pre-peak Hardaway (i.e. comparing their physical profiles and basic skill set)? What's the point of your post? Don't you think he knows Dante doesn't compare to a peak Hardaway?

As far as comparisons go, it is not bad, but they are completely different players. Penny liked to post and bang and thrived on contact, which I havent seen from Exum (it may come). Exum seems quicker and has better court vision than Penny.
