Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Don didn't guard Brunson for the most part. Conley and Royce did.
Yeahs thats the point genius. Don wasnt good enough to guard a 6' guard who isnt even close to being an All-Star
Steph and Dame don't cover Doncic or Harden either.
Again, that's the point. Donovan isn't on the level of offensive super-star where it's passable for him to be a complete zilch defender (and Steph is a much better defender than Don)
This whole defense conversation just goes in circles.
Again, exactly. Don is such a bad defender that he makes it difficult to build a team. And he doesnt have the skill to offset that putrid D like a Doncic has.

This might be the worst response to what I posted possible.

I think Don might have guarded more of Brunson shots than Royce ended up guarding. Dallas was purposefully switching to get Brunson on Donovan (or Conley or Clarkson).

I know this is slightly off topic, but I've been wanting to throw it in somewhere, Brunson ended the series shooting 11/28 when he was guarded by Royce. He was 51/98 against everyone else.

I have never applauded Don's defense. I have always said we can easily put up a good enough defense to win a title if he is our worst defender.

Royce is okay,, but our other 2 perimeter defenders suck. Rudy can't guard the perimeter either.

Steph Curry isn't a better defender than Don, but that doesn't matter. Not the point of the story.

How can you honestly say that we can put up a good enough defense to win a title if he’s our worst defender?

He isn’t a better defender than Steph and you know why? Steph at least tries on defense where as Donovan is as useful as a traffic cone.

Yeah no one was talking to you when we made the list about Don's being difficult to be around.

Rudy can guard the perimeter. The issue is he has no backline help because of the weak defensive links we have. Dude made the big defensive stop on Luka, a top 5 NBA player, that gave us a chance to win Game 6.

Yes he is. Talk to anyone who watches basketball.

Just LoPoo making **** up to justify is his deranged narrative.

To be fair to Lopo, maybe he thought we were takling about Seth Cur... oh wait, Donovan is worse on D than him too.

*and holy **** I just had it on regular season. When you switch to playoffs. Good lord*

I wonder if it's CAA just putting **** out to make Utah look bad so they reverse course and blow it up so no one thinks they didnt blow it up for the ASG.

Which, if true, huge applauds to CAA for advanced ****ery.

It's routine. A team puts out a story in the media that says, "We don't want to trade Player X!" This is code for, "We are very open to trading Player X, but we want better offers than we've gotten so far."

Otherwise, why bring it up in the first place...

Rudy's camp could be putting a few things out there also, just because getting traded can be a blow to a guy's ego. This stunt with Shaq is weird.

Maybe I’ll reply to this more in earnest next week, but for now…

HUH?????????????
Oh wait, Steph has some defensive statistic better than Don even though Steph gets to play with Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and a bunch of other young, athletic guys who defend their hearts out so he doesn't have to.

If you're talking about Donovan's defense, you need to compare him to other guys who are lead ball handlers and also the main scoring option, basically Damian Lillard, James Harden and I guess Trae Young. They're all pretty much zero on the defensive end.

Luka Doncic is constantly attacked in one on one situations and taken advantage of. He's 5th on this "Raptor" ranking. Get the **** out of here.

Gobert plays with a bunch of traffic cones on defense and he leads the entire league in this same metric.
Jokic and Embiid are above Rudy in this metric. So much for Rudy Gobert being some generational defender. He's not even a top 2 center on defense when what he really is known for is defense.

Steph Curry and Don tend to get matched up on other teams worst player, but the advanced show on average that the person Don is directly defending shoots at a MUCH higher % than their average.

Steph's defender shoots slightly worse than average, and Steph gets a lot of steals too. Steph is a much smarter player than Don. Don has the capability to be a much better defender than Steph, but the visual test shows Don does not put much emphasis on defense while Steph hustles.

I can't blame Don for this fully, as coaches and management have let him slack. A good coach may put up with a poor defender if they are an offensive star, but they wouldn't put up with a clear lack of effort. Hell, even Harden gets after it more than Don.

Sloan had his faults, but he made sure everyone was accountable. Of course he had the luxury of two superstars that brought it every day.

I'd rather watch a team like the 04 roster play good ball and overachieve and miss the playoffs instead of a talented team like the current roster that is somehow a sinking ship.

That is why I'd like new coaching first, to see if what we have is salvagable before blowing **** up.
