Taylor Hendricks Hype Thread

So I guess this is the biggest storyline for the rest of the season. Does he start right away? Will he remain banished?

I’m on the edge of my seat.
I predict 12 minutes tonight. 6'ish in each half.
Hopefully he plays really well early and Hardy decides to keep him in longer than expected.

Quick GLeague numbers recap for Hendricks. 39 players in the 2023 draft have played in the GLeague this year including 18 first round picks. Here's how he ranks

Ranks amongst: (All draftees / First Rounders Only)

PTS/36 - (30 / 15)
RBS/36 - (18 / 8)
AST/36 - (38 / 18)
STL/36 - (25 / 10)
BLK/36 - (4 / 2)
3FG/36 - (14 / 10)
3FG% - (22 / 12)

USG% - (36 / 18)

*TS% is calculated incorrectly for GLeague, but rankings should be semi consistent.

He ranks #1 in my heart so does any of this matter?

I know people like to remain optimistic but those are not the numbers of an NBA player.

Hendricks was a top 10 pick, he should have ruled the G-League.

Off ball players dont rule the G League. In fact they shouldnt be put there in the first place.

Thats why all this criticism is stupid. At this point in time Hendricks is supposed to be a player who plays off of great guys and contributes without taking anything away from them.

Actually there are a ton of off ball players who put up crazy GLeague stats.

The GLeague criticisms aren't stupid. They are 100% legit. He's a very very low feel player.

He's just a rookie so always big room for improvement, but the dude is not a hooper at all. He's an athlete with Bambi strength. He will have to learn his role to a T and not stray outside of it if he is to become a quality NBA player.

If you're bad in the G it doesn't mean you can't have a NBA career, but you're more likely a Royce O'Neale than a top 100 caliber player

I think it has some validity but isn't any kind of indictment on his career. I understand the thought that there are a lot of gunners in the G and his game isn't well suited to dominate there. You'd like to see the physical things be dominant... rebounds, steals, blocks. He was fine on stocks but light in other areas. I think its better for his development to play the Ochai role with the varsity club though.

You could see him being more assertive last night than he was in the pre-season. He's made steady improvements. The feel stuff he needs reps on. He can play a role and not hurt us while he learns.

Also the dumping some want to do with him is weird.

It's not weird. He's the 9th pick. To trade him asap is to maximize his value.

And there is no way he doesn't hurt us currently.

But the Jazz should want to lose for the rest of the season, so it's not an issue. Play him, but just limit his minutes so he doesnt overextend himself and lose value.

Ochai showed that you can be a relative fail for two years and still get value from the right team.
