The Big Ken Lofton Watch Thread

Let's play out a short thought-experiment:

initial assumption: the team is committing to playing Lauri, Hendricks, and Keyonte
initial conclusion: there's a lack of playmaking in that trio, so the other two players need to have those chops.

Let me just jump to my point here: we need a big that can perform at a high-level in the short roll. The short roll in today's NBA is not primarily about scoring—though you do need to have that threat, and apply that pressure—it's more about how the player executes a quick read and passes out.

I don't trust Kessler to do this at a high-level right now. I'm sure he's working like hell on it. And so,... I see a path for Lofton here. I can imagine a Lauri-Hendricks-Lofton trio working on offense and defense. The defensive philosophy should borrow heavily from what Denver is doing with Jokic (Lofton is Jokic here); they bring him up to the level of the screen and do a lot of switching. Lauri and Hendricks are backline defenders that can protect the rim. The fit on offense is pretty obvious.

That leaves a need for additional playmaking guard. Keyonte can do plenty, but there needs to be another guy out there. I understand the desire to draft Castle, but I'm not a draft guy anymore (haven't been for years, tbh).

We lose 17 straight and Lofton finally gets his opportunity to play some significant minutes and we win two in a row. Coincidence? I think not. Yeah the Rooks were killing us at first and they’ve finally found a groove but look who was available Friday night on a back to back on the road and look who came in and spearheaded a comeback in the first half against the Clips starters.

I don’t want to read too much into it but I guess I can’t help it. This team needed a dog in the worst way and we found one finally in Lofton. Nobody scares this kid in any way, shape or form, not even PJ Tucker (remember how bad Gobert got the shakes against Tucker?).

I live in absolute fear that we hoarde and use every pick and have no room on the roster for Lofton, Dunn, Juzang and Bazley. Lucky to have them and the draft won’t do us any better. We need to consolidate our picks and trade up for Sarr.
Yeah, it is a coincidence lmfao. The two wins came against teams without an incentive to win. Crazy how the moment the Jazz stopped playing motivated teams they looked decent.

Lofton really needs a reliable 3pt shot so he can share the court with non skilled rim protectors. Would make him so much more valuable as the context for him being a useable player wouldn't be as lineup limited.

Because of his skill he doesn't have to be a volume shooter, but has to knockdown limited attempts at a high level.

If Sensa lost lbs, I think his playmaking would improve. Plus Keynote will get better. He is getting burnt out from being too much in his head. Lofton really would make it work which is crazy.

Go team Ozempic!

Castle would be ideal for that lineup. I would worry about defensive rebounding with Lofton being the primary interior player so having an active guard like Castle would be a must.

Carb-load Boozer doesn’t roll off the tongue like Snack Randolph does.
Bigger Boozer
Buffet Boozer
Bulldozer Boozer

That’s funny cause the last thing a coach wants to do is to start a losing streak going into a playoff series. And Udoka doesn’t know how to lay down for anybody let alone Hardy a former associate (he could’ve given some burn to the scrubs). In reality they both looked like somebody pissed in their cheerios when the horn sounded.

I reckon the kid is best used as a small ball 5, don't think we're going that way.

Hardy has relegated Kessler over and over for Collins, and we don’t even play PnR which is Collins biggest strength. Hardy wants a big that can play at the top of the key, run dribble handoff, and do a lot of initiating. Offensively, Lofton is a near ideal fit.

As far as being a two way player, probably got to figure out how’s he’s going to be an NBA player at all first. The Jazz are a perfect system for him to succeed.

I like your thought process, but I don't think Kenny has any chance of fitting in to a high level NBA defense in his current state.

I don’t disagree. He needs to get in better shape and develop that side of his game. I’m just saying I see a path of development.

Okay, I think it has to be brought up as an idea. Remember when Louisianian Derrick Favors went to Karl's ranch or wherever back in like 2011... 2013 (somewhere around that time) to do offseason training? I think as a fellow Louisiana Techian, the Jazz should bring Karl in to work with Lofton. Send him down to The Boot. We do tend to have luck when it comes to Louisiana Tech PF's, and Lofton could be the next starting 4 for the Jazz if he trains hard this offseason.

This is where I wish we had exit interviews. Simply from my eye test Lofton looked as lean as he ever has in the NBA during his stint with Utah.

If his big boy weight is 300 (what he started camp in Memphis this year) and his average weight is 275, I would guess he was probably around 260 in Utah.

Looks good when you load up his stat page, and you see that 13.8 ppg for the Utah Jazz. He also made a symbolic post on IG "The Lord Works In Mysterious Ways" with a bunch of pictures of him playing with the Jazz. I'm smelling a monster season for Big Ken Lofton next season, and I know it's not just the BBQ Pork Belly cookin over at Ken's place that has me deceived!

He looked way fatter than me, and I'm at 260 right now at 6'2". I get there is more muscle and bulk there but 260 seems on the low end from the eye test.
