2016 NBA Season Notes/Info

About time... He hasn't drafted too badly, but his trades were pretty bad. Some of the most lopsided trades ever made. He also doesn't seem to have the right plan in place. They never really 'tanked' properly to get the right talent.

They did draft poorly.. I'd have done better.. having two sub-30% 3pt shooters as pillars of your team is an outrageously bad idea, in these days and crimes..

For most teams I can think up a fix in the draft or free agency at the drop of a hat. When I look at Orlando's roster, that doesn't happen, what I see is a roster that screams "A trade needs to happen"...

Scott Skiles made a big stink about Elfrid Payton when he resigned/stepped down, and was he really wrong?

I can't help but think they'd infact be much better off if they had kept Saric instead of swapping him for Payton, and then drafted Exum instead of AG..

There was players they could've picked up off the scrap heap that would've helped them immensely, and they balked at those opportunities..

I think they drafted fine for the position, if you look at Oladipo, or Payton or Aaron Gordon, they were BPA for where they were drafting.

It's the 'trades' that had let them down. Even if think about the Saric/Payton trade, I mean it's the trade that's at fault, Payton picked where he was was fine for me.

Actually those players weren't even 2nd BPA, or 3rd.. If they really had picked the BPA, surely things would be a lot different.. and thats the point..

There's an issue with looking at these players on a case-by-case basis too.. if u do that the stupidity of the draft picks, and their incongruence, isn't properly illustrated..

There's chronology and as always $$$ involved too (read as $$$ and cap concerns)...

I had Victor Oladipo 2nd on my board btw. I have no qualms with that pick. The issue is now they have a shotty 3pt shooter in Oladipo, and who do they go out of their way to target in the next draft?!??!?! WHY 2-non shooters of course, in the lottery too.. which further exacerbates the issues of Vic, as opposed to finding complimentary players they gambled on players being able to improve their 3pt shot and look how it turned out, pissed off fans, coaches, dudes fired and stepping down.. This is the eastern conference too, in the west it'd have looked even worse..

It's the same thing as the rumor of them shopping Vucevic.. They built a team that's not complimentary around him, and then want to run him out of town because of it, when he's clearly far-and-away their best player (and on a crazy cheap deal)

That's why I'd have easily done a better job, Hennigan's plan was to squeeze blood out of a stone..

According to broadcaster Jeff Van Gundy, Golden State isn't going to be challenged during the playoffs.

"It's already over, right? Golden State is your champion. It won't be close. No one is gonna push them," Van Gundy declared on the Lowe Post Podcast.

"You really believe that?" Lowe asked Van Gundy.

"It's over. It's over," Van Gundy repeated. "This is a three-year run that's been incredible and they got better this year. The only thing that I think could make them stumble is another incident, or an injury.

"They had the incident last year with Green ... now that they're whole and healthy -- somebody trying to even get them to a seventh game, it's hard for me to fathom."

Begley reports that head coach Jeff Hornacek unleashed an expletive-laden rant at his team at halftime of New York’s embarrassing loss to the “rival” Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn made 14 threes in the first half, so Hornacek’s frustration wasn’t surprising.

The remarkable detail was Anthony’s response. The usually mild-mannered star reportedly responded with “anger and expletives of his own.”

Then you add the Kurt Rambis factor into the mix. Yes, that’s right the defensive coordinator got mixed up in things too. Per Begley, Rambis responded by “calling out Anthony’s effort on defense.”

Rambis may have been trying to assert his authority as the defensive coordinator. New York finished the season 25th in defensive rating. Nice job Kurt.

Anthony’s issues stemmed from a larger problem having to do with the entire organization.

Via Begley:
Anthony’s R-rated rant essentially questioned the direction of the entire organization, according to sources.

The 32-year-old has implied that he isn’t interested in returning if the team isn’t going to win next season, and all signs point to a rebuild. It’s what makes the most sense.

Boy, what a mess.

Someone is still butthurt about being wrong about Gordon.

LeBron(13) has passed Malone, Kobe and MJ(12) for the most seasons at 25+ PPG.

What exactly was I wrong about? I said he's gimmicky and his shot is broken, both of which still ring true.

Aaron Gordon isn't even nearly as good as Derrick Favors, thats the funny part, much ado about not a goddamn thing.. He was certainly built up here to be greater, no doubt.

Lets not forget that I was the first person on this site to ever mention Aaron Gordon, or post footage of him. I don't hate the kid or root for him to fail. He's far from some panacea tho, in a lot of ways he's a microcosm of the struggling orlando franchise.

Lets not forget when talking about Aaron Gordon back in 2014, I used to often quip "Why not just sign Al Farouq Aminu for pennies"..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8sEXtNFt8k

So lemme ask again, what exactly was I wrong about? Aminu's considerably bigger than Gordon, he guards 3-5, recently grabbed more boards than Rudy in a victory over the Jazz. He's an elite level rebounder at SF, his shot isn't great but he ended up at 33% this season on decent attempts, he gets hot, also is a consummate teammate..
and the price was a pittance in comparison..
