AI is the classic floor raiser guy... not a ceiling raiser because if he doesn't have the ball he does nothing elite. If he does have the ball he can get you a lot of league average possessions. It's helpful if you don't have other places to use those possessions.

It's fairly basic stuff tbh.
I could see him being elite at getting open without the ball due to his speed and quickness. I could also see him being elite at playing passing lanes for steals and I could see him being elite at running out after a defensive rebound for an outlet to be part of a fast break.
It ain't much but I think him on a team full of amazing talents would still have good value due to his elite (even with all time greats) speed and athleticism.
A good coach would be able to use Iverson to their advantage even if he wasn't simply dominating the ball like he did in his Philly days.

You should watch more AI games. He put more pressure on a defense as a whole. He caused whole team defenses to soften up, make mistakes leave other guys open. He may have held the ball a lot but his passes were so impactful due to the chaos he created. He’s an all time great, he did more with less than anyone else. He would’ve relished the opportunity to work with Nalone and Shaq, they would’ve been an unstoppable trio.

Iverson was such a misunderstood player and individual. He wasn’t like say a Marbury. He wanted to win and had to play the way he did. Literally no one else on those teams could score the ball with any consistency. You’re crazy if you thinkhe’s going to play the exact same way with Malone and Shaq.

He was hungry for winning and would utilize those guys more than the actual offensiveless bigs he had in real life. In fact AI would’ve been tailor made next to Shaq like wife and rice.

So ignore the player he was and project him to be this super selfless teammate from age 21-24... seems fair... can I also project that all my guys would have made 40% of their threes?

He toned it down and was more efficient in Denver but he was also a vet who had established his value. Even when AI fully matured the Nuggets ended up being a whole lot better when they swapped him for Billups.

The Iverson that was drafted here put up 26 per game in the playoffs on 38.4% shooting from the floor and 31% from 3.

He started his decline in Denver. And only played three years there and had to play with Melo who was always the best player for the other team. Lol

Just finished watching this.

One of the most classic TNT segments ever. There were some really good picks, some steals and a ton of really bad picks as well. Lol and some great trash talking flying like crazy.

that was the only time he was a remotely efficient player. That version of AI fits much better than the young AI (which is what we get in this draft).

Melo was still there when Billups arrived and they were better with an old Billups than they were with an old AI.

Acting like Mailman and Shaq need AI to set them up to be more efficient is dumb AF. Mailman had the best setup man in the biz and Shaq could do it by himself. AI may have been helped by playing with those guys but he still wouldn't have been above league average in efficiency. If you want to argue he can be a totally different player than he actually was then I'm not sure what we are doing here.

No!! He had better players around him. There was no way he was going to be efficient on those 76ers teams. Hell, I’ll go as far to say if he shot less and was more efficient, those teams aren’t as good.

We aren’t talking about just being ball dominant here... we are talking about thee most ball dominant player in the league... his usage rate was 34.... like the one of the highest in the history of the league and his TS% was below 50%... which is below league average. He averaged 4-5 assists his first all star year in 99-00. He’s a volume scorer paired with another volume scorer in Kobe... all that takes good out of the mouths of Shaq and mailman.

It is more likely that those defenses carried AI than AI carried them. He had to be surrounded by low usage defensive minded guys to work.
I'm not saying have AI sucks or is negative, but I don't get pairing him with guys like Kobe/Vince and two high usage star GOAT bigs. Hyper talented team, but not a good fit and those guys weren't good enough yet to compete in this tournament.

Magic and Moses Malone might be #1 and #2 players of the 80s (Bird is the other guy in that convo IMO). Kind of why I hesitated on drafting Moses. The dude is hyper underrated.
