2024 NBA Free Agency Thread

As long as Clarkson is gone the off season will be successful. He was that bad and now we have another mouth to feed.

The question is… is JC officially a negative asset now?

Negative asset needs to be removed from the nba lexicon. I don’t think he’s a big liability… I think his value is close to neutral.

Clarkson is only a neutral if a “power of friendship” situation pops up.
I don’t disagree but I think there are a few of those out there potentially. And by neutral what I mean is I think we could get an equivalent expiring straight up. Not a straight dump into someone’s cap space.

Eh….Idk about that. I think THJ was kind of neutral (even though Grimes is the goat) and he was better than JC+is expiring.

I think the trade with ATL makes sense. Kessler+Clarkson for Capela and picks. Maybe we can also redirect Capela to another team.

Minor blip about Utah:

There’s another team lingering on the periphery of this situation as well. The Utah Jazz have all the cap space, veteran salaries and exorbitant draft capital to add the type of co-stars — such as Mikal Bridges, once upon a time, whom the team attempted to land this week, sources said, before New York splurged six years of first-round draft assets for the Villanova product — to round out a roster that already features All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen. That appears to have been Utah’s dreamiest plot this summer, according to league figures with knowledge of the situation, trading for one or even two more bonafide pieces to then entice George to flee Los Angeles for Salt Lake City. That mirror to how George landed in Los Angeles back in 2019 — when the Clippers sent a bounty to OKC for his services, and thus signed Leonard in tow — is quite fascinating, although incredibly unlikely George makes it a reality.

Yeah, I feel like this kind of stuff gets how there via The Jazz to make Ryan happy.

I think Dlo for JC could happen as well even though Dlo played way better than JC and is expiring with similar money. Value is very subjective. I think his value is close enough to neutral that it would only require a second or two to move him if we needed to. Collins is another story.

I think both JC’s are mostly the same story. In a specific situation, it could happen. But reality is we’re either paying to get rid of them or waiting two years.

Collins costs double, but can actually be seen as a good player. Clarkson was one of the worst players in the entire league last year and is old.
