2025 Off-Season Trade Ideas Thread

DET could be an interesting destination. Not super interested in adding future bad picks, but they have some young guys worth a look and some vets we could potentially swing elsewhere.
I like Ivey as a second draft guy. He was pretty good last year pre-injury. I would add a 2026 pick and see if there was some ability to do a follow up deal where we sucker a western conference team into a 2026 swap using the Detroit pick. I would expect the pick to be late teens early 20s but one Cade injury still leaves the Pistons in a rough spot.

Couple picks and Ivey might be the best offer we can expect. They do have a pretty good portfolio of second rounders (sexy I know) so grab a fistful of those too.

If you can re-route Harris into a Dame type deal or if you just send him for a less good expiring contract and some stuff then we'd have a good chunk of cap space next year. Its not a haul but its adequate for our goals.

I think a lot of teams will look at what Indy did with the Siakim trade and try to recreate it with Lauri.
The Pistons specifically could do a direct kind of comp to that model. Good lead guard... needs a secondary scorer. I doubt Ausar is on the table and tbh I think he might be a little over-valued when it comes to a trade... but if you do the "okay we will let you have Ausar... but we want a couple other picks or Holland with the picks to compensate" type of thing it might work.

Ivey is kind of interesting, but he might just be the combo guard version of Mathurin/Kuminga....which is fine. I'm ok with taking some bets on those types of prospects.

Ausar is definitely not on the table, but I think Holland could be. He really can't shoot, but he can actually defend and play hard. Definitely prefer him over a crappy first.

I like Holland. He is funny as hell to watch. He out there doing stuff.

I think Ivey I have more hope for because he does stuff pretty efficiently and at decent volume. Detroit finally figured out this year that shooting and spacing is good. He may end up being a version of Sexton tho. Unlike Kuminga I think he kind of knows what he is. Mathurin is another interesting second draft guy.

If the trade is Ivey/Holland/2026 first and Harris for salary for Lauri are we in? I value getting a 2026 first pretty highly because I really do think you could work it into a swap with a asset poor team in the western conference and you have a nice little speculative investment. Would you rather sub in a 2028 pick for Holland?

Realistically, I think that's the best you can get and probably on the high side. I think we should be looking at Siakam as a reference point and I'd say Holland+Ivey+Harris is pretty close. Maybe you can squeeze out some additional compensation, we did put down the down payment. Or did they put the down payment for us?

I think we got the deposit unfortunately.

This is like three times as much as Siakam got.

When you’re already calling tanking a “bad cycle” after one season, it honestly reeks of impatience. If we’re going to talk about dangerous patterns, let’s talk about the one where we panic and return to the middle of the pack just because we can’t handle being bad for more than 12 months. If you don’t like how long it’s been, your complaint should be with the mediocrity we found ourselves in for two years after trading Don/Rudy.

Haha, you might be right that I am falling into a different kind of psychological trap. Perhaps patience would be the best approach here.

Wasn't Siakam an unrestricted free agent the next season? That makes a huge difference, no? The reason the Ja!z got the deals they did for Gobert and Mitchell is because they had quite a few years on their contract.

No it doesn't make a difference as Siakam and Indiana worked out a max extension before the trade.
