2025 Off-Season Trade Ideas Thread

Tony Jones said on Twitter that the Jazz are going to try hard to move Sexton and Clarkson this summer and are open to moving Collins but his contract now holds a bit more value. It will take an offer they absolutely can’t refuse to move Lauri or Kessler.

Would Orlando rather take 21 and Sexton for 16, or Sexton for 25?
hmmm... would you rather have 21 and 25 than 16? I think in a vacuum I'd rather have 21 and 25. In our situation though maybe moving up to 16 is the ticket. May still get one of the guys you were targeting at 16 at 21 though.

From their perspective they don't have a roster crunch but might have a hard time having either guy crack the rotation.

16 is probably the end of the range where you might think Bryant/Fleming/Coward would be available... if all three are gone I think it means someone like CMB/Kas/Maluach has slipped... like something weird happened. I think 16 might be the preference here.

I think Orlando would rather have 21 and 25 just because their roster is thinning and getting more expensive, so maybe they think they can get Clifford + Clayton at 21/25, but it would be tough for them to pass on a guy like Coward if he's still there.

Looking at the last 15 or so years and just 16 vs. 21/25 I think most years I'd prefer 16 to 21/25. When it hit, it seemed to hit bigger.

I think all it takes is one or two weird picks where someone reaches or a report comes out about something that causes 1 or 2 teams to pause... and then you are in prime position to catch the guy who falls. If everything goes somewhat chalk you are looking at like Richardson/Sorber/Demin grouping.

If they are going the upperclassmen route I think Clayton/Kalkbrenner/Clifford would be there at 21/25

Is there another Sexton destination besides ORL?

Something I had thought about is Sexton to CHO for Nurkic and the pick they got for Nurkic. It's a bonus tank move because you remove wins from our total and add to theirs. CHO could honestly push for a play in spot next season, and their fans seem eager at least.

Dallas, Orlando, Milwaukee are the prime teams. I think the new owners and FO in Charlotte are slow playing things and they may bring in Tre/VJ this offseason.

Maybe NOP? Pistons and Heat make some sense depending on what else happens.

Orlando should be the most motivated... sounds like Portland wants better stuff for Simons and his cap number is quite a bit higher.

I think Simons would probably be a better fit (and he is a little overrated) so he's probably higher on ORL's wish list. But I would be ok with undercutting POR and accepting a "bad" offer for Sexton if that's what gets it done. ORL are a scaredy cat franchise, so they'll probably just take the lower risk move. I'm still kinda interested in Anthony Black as well. I wouldn't mind working out a larger deal with them. At $8M and $10M the next season, he's a lot more expensive than Corey Joseph. Nothing about ORL is very logical though.

ATL doesn't immediately make a ton of sense, but I'd just call them on Sexton anyways. NOP kind of in the same boat.

MIA sort of makes sense, I do like the three teamer with SAC that sends Collins to SAC and Derozan to MIA more than anything involving Sexton. But Sexton is probably going to be a better player than Derozan next year....just doesn't have the reputation.

Go do the Lauri deal with Detroit and get a 2026 Pistons pick. Do the Collins deal with Sacramento/Miami and just take a pick swap in 2026 with the Det pick. Heat get the lesser of Det/Sac/Miami, Sac gets the next most favorable pick, and we get the most favorable of the three picks.

I ain’t thinking about all those swaps, but I trust you super swap master.

I really need Austin Ainge to get into super swaps. It just seems like an easy way to trick a dumb team or an overconfident team.

Pretty sad that the Magic were the team that got to rob the Suns blind for their 2026 first.

The Magic traded three really bad seconds to the Suns for the right to super swap between the Wizards and Suns (two of the worst teams in the NBA)

Are you suggesting the Jazz can only get the 25h pick for Sexton or a slight move up in the draft? Next question is who do the Jazz have to take back in matching salary and how long is that contract?

Yeah, the NBA hates Sexton for some reason and he has very little value unfortunately. They think his offense doesn't make up for his terrible defense in playoff matchups so a late first is probably what we can get. The Jazz would probably take back Cole Anthony or KCP.

Sexton won't be bringing back any kind of FRP.
