2025 Off-Season Trade Ideas Thread

Durant is close to washed. He's still a bucket-getter but is a a brittle shell of his peak, doesn't elevate his teammates, no longer contributes to high-level winning, and doesn't lead. He won his two titles riding the coattails of Steph Curry.

I understand that Minnesota wants to win and covets and NBA title, but they've only made 4 straight postseason runs after making the playoffs just once in preceding 17 years. Pushing all their chips in to win that title for a way past his peak, injury prone, former superstar demonstrates a short-term perspective that risks fast tracking their return to the lottery treadmill if (and likely once) this gamble doesn't pay off. Even if it does, one NBA title isn't sufficient return for 17 years of losing. I know this isn't a popular opinion, but if I were a Minnesota fan, I'd be more concerned about building a foundation for long-term competitive success, not making desperate throws of the dice to win a title in the short-run but that elevates the risk of returning back to non-competitive irrelevance.
To be fair, Minny package is centered around Rudy who is also out of his prime. They wanna keep Reid and probably have to pay him at least low end starter money so better make him a starter.

I agree about KD and have always found his player-GMing more obnoxious than that of Lebron or some other superstars.

Meh, if I am the Suns I make that trade regardless of what KD wants. Even if KD doesn't re-sign with the Wolves, it still let's them reset their cap. Win for both teams.
Wolves are the ones holding things up. That is the offer if KD is okay going there... that is the impression I get.

Nobody has left bigger deuces in the Player Empowerment Era than Harden and KD

That's a fair observation. It's a personal bias. I'm not a fan of pushing in all one's chips for ST gains that imperil LT viability, particularly for franchises with long traditions of losing. I'd rather watch year after year of good, competitive basketball that delivers value for one's entertainment money, even if it doesn't produce a title, than suffer through long and/or repeated cycles of losing punctuated by transitory relevance. Minnesota has 17 years of losing to pay back to its fan base. In my view, it needs to be thinking about how to repay this debt in a sustainable, LT manner rather than focusing on chasing ST, transitory glory. If they can do both, then all the better. I'm just skeptical they can, and if I were a fan, I'd be worrying that a hell-bent-for-leather quest to win a title (such as by chasing after washed out superstars) suggests a lack of focus on LT competitive sustainability.

MIN should give KD a 4 year full max extension. IDK what KD is so afraid of, he will just ask out and leave later anyways.

TOR package for Durant seems pretty good. Wouldn't take the whole thing to convince me to trade Lauri (if you can move the Raptor players elsewhere).

It's hard to believe Jazz would take the PG contract just to move up 2 spots. Anyone available at 3 could *feasibly* be sitting there at 5.

Taking PG's contract in this economy? nah. They gotta add if they want that.

PG/3 to Utah for 5 only makes sense if you are dealing Sexton/Collins for the salary, keeping Lauri, and hoping PG has a resurgence.

Actually think that's a decent deal for the Sixers if they just want to save money long-term. Not bad for Utah either as having cap-space in Utah is irrelevant.

Sub Sexton for Clarkson and add some stuff and I think its palatable... Have to believe in PG and likely targeting VJ?

Collins Sexton 5 for PG 3 and the 2028 Clips first they own. I would not settle for much less.

What is 3 years at 50 million in dead cap space worth?
You would have to believe in PG to some degree. I don't think he's completely washed. I still think something like this could push you a bit too far in the tank race and even if he rehabs his value I don't think you get an asset for him and that contract is hard to move.

I'd just chill at 5.

I cant really see a PG trade happening. I’m guessing Morey bets on the PG resurgence. He wasn’t actually THAT bad last year. I know he’s old and won’t be worth his deal, but it’s reasonable to expect him to be a good player for them.

Since Sexton is redundant for the Sixers, maybe get Dallas involved?

Send Thompson to 76ers and the Mavs get Sexton?

Do the Mavs still value Klay? By the time Kyrie gets healthy, Klay may be fully cooked.

76ers get one last chance to see if they can win with Embiid?

This.

That's a lot of gymnastics to end up with a bad fit, bad contract and the same tier of player had you just stayed at 5
