Alec Burks: Redemption

While tonight's game is still in fresh memory, I wanna point out that we're paying Alec about 11 million over the next 3 years. The Wizards are paying a 31-year old Ian Mahinmi 16 million over the next 4.

Uhh, the Jazz only have Burks for this year and next.

Just about everyone here loved the Burks deal when it went down.

Then he ran into some bad luck with injuries and a bunch of revisionists started making the claim that he was never good to begin with.

Burks has always been my "player I irrationally love". I'm afraid of what's happening to him... I might have to drop the irrationally part.

I think it is rational... he has been healthy for 25 straight games and is finally feeling comfortable. He would have had a jump in production but lost 2.5 - 3 years with various injuries.

Our scheme is fairly uncommon and he's breaking himself of some habits. i think he very likely comes down in shooting because he isn't a 60/50/100 shooter, but I think he is clearly a better shooter and is now able to navigate pick and rolls in the team concept. His FT shooting is 92%... I think his stoke is for real.

Burks was never a good defensive player.... in fact based on advanced stats he was one of the worst defensive wings in all NBA. But this season Snyder worked some magic into him and he is playing his best defence ever so far. I am not too worried about offence, he was always a good offensive spark of the bench, but it is his defence which will either make him or break him.

His offensive rating is 110 and defensive rating is 102. Last year he was 98/106 respectively. He was disruptive offensively last year in a bad way.

So the team is good when he is on the floor... not sure you could ever say that in the past.

It's so funny to hear everyone say stuff like "now that Favors and Alec are playing so well, let's trade em!" No. We WANT great players, and these guys when healthy (and in Burks case), in their right minds.

Alec Burks has been absolutely incredible. If he and mitch keep this up and the rest of the team play their part we're a 3 seed.

It's pretty simple - you don't play defense, you don't play for QS.

Burks has more than enough ability to at least be adequate on defense - he never was before because he never played major minutes for a coach who demanded it from him (see Corbin).

I've been thinking about starting this thread for a while now. Burks looks good on both ends of the floor.

Oh man. If Alec Burks just keeps balling. We are in for it.[/QUOTE]

There's no need for me to even say it.. Thats the beauty of these type of things.. I only wish Fish was here to rub it in.

Did you hear that noise? it's the sound of a hundred threads primed for bump material fading into obscurity..

AB mentioned Thabo been helping him on defense... said he just tries to do what Thabo does.

Still struggles navigating screens but has been decent and then started jumping passing lanes... which is huge because it leads to transition opportunities. Has also had a few where he goes up and just gets the ball with his athleticism. Its clear he is trying on that end.

I think we can officially label Burks a shooter. He was trending that way before his injuries, but that pull up three from the top of the arc is silky as hell.

Fish returns to Jazzfanz and Burks struggles... Maybe Fish's fandom is too much for Burks to handle? His best games were while Fish wasnt on here.

He was not making shots tonight... most of our guys seemed to have dead legs. He still was okay though... didn't go into a huge funk where he was unplayable.

Also has anyone notice his home road splits... dude loves Vivent
