Bell to be Amnestied

1. No one is trading anything for Raja.

2. There is no one else to use the amnesty on, so the Jazz are better off amnestying him than they are waiving him (for cap reasons AND in the unlikely case someone makes a small bid for him).

I firmly believe there is at least a 50% chance Raja can be dealt for expirings and/or a guy who only kills 1 or 2 million in 13. If a 2nd can be wrought of that, it's a no brainer that's a better alternative than amnestying him. But you still don't amnesty Raja until the last few seconds of the Amnesty period. If nothing materializes, I'd probably do it, although having Raja's Contract around could still be very helpful after the amnesty period during the FA window.

From what I understand Raja is completely on board with the young guys playing, he was just upset because he never felt like Ty communicated it with him clearly what his role would be and just cold shouldered him.

Raja called out the coach for being unprofessional, while somehow not realizing that calling out your coach is unprofessional. Plus his play stank.

He will be gone before the first game.

I will go with this. If we cant we get anything for him though amnestying him is something we need to do.

If the Jazz are going to trade an expiring Raja for other expiring (or near minimum) players plus picks, those other players are going to have to be worse than Raja. Who fits the bill? Obviously, the Jazz should be trying to move Raja, but they might be able to save the vet minimum for Raja in an amnesty bid after that ship has sailed.

july 17. that's the deadline for using the amnesty provision. using it on bell before then is simply irrational. might as well wait 18 days to see if he can turn anything up.

and pkm, each team can only use the amnesty provision once over the life of the CBA, and it has to be a player who was already under contract at the time of the CBA.

Or maybe his contract will be needed to make salaries match in a deal involving Jefferson or Harris. We could always get 2 players with longer-term deals and need a throw-in. I doubt Bell is amnestied. If he really wants to go somewhere else (and a team wants him), it's an easy trade to make. If he's a distraction or the Jazz need the roster spot, he can be waived or bought out.

There is no way KOC pulls the amnesty deal off until the last minute. He is very shrewed with these type of things. He likes to wait until the last possible minute to make his intentions known.

Some team might be willing to make a small amnesty bid for him (but not take on his whole salary in a trade). Maybe that cash is more valuable in the Jazz FO's eyes than Raja's salary-matching trade value. I don't disagree with you, and would hope the Jazz would be willing to eat the small amount Raja might get on an amnesty bid and hold out for a deal as long as possible, but maybe that's not the case. It's probably worth considering the effect of telling Raja to stay at home until he's dealt might have on the Jazz organization's reputation among players and agents.

Unless there's a cancer and a message is better sent now than later ...........

Telling him to stay at home might not sit well with the union, either.
But maybe that's not the case. Perhaps he comes back ready to contribute. Perhaps it depends on what other moves are made. I wouldn't count on Foster or Murphy to get regular minutes. So if the Jazz stand pat with their 2/3's and don't re-sign Howard or Miles, Bell could play some minutes.

Right now there are too many balls in play with Harris and Jefferson being shopped (at least we think they are).
