What's new

Ben Affleck is the new Batman

Nothing against him do his thing as an actor but we're talking about Batman and come on! After this guy?!?

Bale was far and away the best batman they have had, terrible voice effects aside. Affleck is a good actor when the movie is right for him, but he has had some of the all-time worst movies as well, and he is anything but the batman archetype. I just don't see it. Not sure why they went away from Bale for this next flick, but I think it will end up being a mistake. Maybe they were afraid Bale would just plain overshadow Henry Cavill, who did a fine job in Man of Steel but doesn't have the acting "chops" so to speak to stand up against Bale and hold his own. Now against Affleck Cavill comes across as the stronger actor. We will see I guess. I will still see it, but I might wait for it to hit the Grand Sierra Cinema ($3 theater in the Grand Sierra Casino that gets mainstream movies a few weeks after they leave the big theaters...awesome value and great popcorn. =)

I despise having to admit that. Every time I'm reminded of that fact I start thinking "well, I guess slitting your wrists is an option".

Seriously. Everyone's got that guy in Hollywood they hate, and with a vengeance. For some people it's Hugh Jackman, others is Matthew McConaughey... Bale takes the plate. For two reasons, only one of which are not really his fault. First, his freakout pisses me off.

I guess I better not post it, since it might get me an infraction. Look it up though.

Why? I just hate it when someone that's paid so much money to do something gets this upset because his job is challenging. I guess that's it. The second? The Illusionist with Edward Norton was way, way, WAY better than The Prestige, and the The Prestige seems to be the movie people talk about more.

That being said, I have to admit that Bale was the best Batman we've had. And to replace him with an actor that has proven time and time again that he can't portray someone with true inner strength and power believably.. someone that comes off as "cheap" in these roles (see; Daredevil) is cheapening the title of "Batman".

But then again, perhaps they put Affleck in place as a lame duck Batman, so the next person they get to play him won't feel the pressure of the Bale shadow.

Sounds nice.

A movie better than Prestige? Wow I have to watch this as soon as possible.

Batman is a different kind of superhero from the most. He is extremely mysterious. His actions and mimics are robotic. Doesn't speak much so that would not be a problem either. So I think who plays Batman is not more important than who plays his villain in the movies. That's why it shouldn't hurt too much who plays the role. But Bale did such a great job at it, turning it 180 degrees to Affleck sounds really weak.

Actually, I've warmed up to Affleck as a person. Marriage and a family seem to have taught him a thing or two. That, and the fact that Matt Damon has become such a nozzle that Affleck looks good in comparison. He directs better than he acts.

But he is all wrong for Batman. Nothing about Ben Affleck says dangerous, brooding, or smoldering with a tortured vengeance. He's more Adam West than that.

Hell, I almost forgot that they cast Mr. Mom as Batman previously. It seems like Batman always gets screwed in casting.

Last Affleck movie I saw was "The Town". He co-wrote, directed, and starred in it. I thought it was pretty good.

I think Affleck is talented enough to pull off Batman. Then again, I liked Keaton even more than Bale, although I prefer Nolan's movies to Burton's overall.

I wasn't too high on the last batman, but the first two with Bale were off the charts good.

I think Bale is one of the best actors in Hollywood, and I don't include any of his stuff he did in the Dark Knight Trilogy. Look at his work in:

American Psycho
Equilibrium (one of the best dystopian movies I've seen)
The Machinist (this is the one with his incredible physical transformation)
3:10 to Yuma (I actually thought Ben Foster was the best actor in this one)
The Fighter (one of his best performances)

I will agree with you on The Prestige. Thought it was way overrated, and that may be because I figured out what was going to happen about halfway though the film.

Was Superman any good?

I hated it, but that's me. Well, I don't think that many people liked it either. Snyder just sucks and Superman doesn't make for a good movie. The original Superman movie was okay for a superhero flick, and the rest were pretty ****ing bad.

Disagree with just about everything you said.
