Burks at #12

.....never heard of this kid...but why be overly concerned about his 3 point shooting? The Jazz don't like to shoot many 3's to begin with. We want HIGH percentage shots! Yes, 3 pointers are nice and we'll get our share. But in the paint domination and 2 point shots are the better formula for winning basketball, especially in the playoffs!

And if it doesn't work out, hopefully Big Al is prepared to come off the bench. The Jazz are better served with a starting frontcourt of Favors+Millsap than Favors+Big Al, as they'll need some decent shooters with CJ ****ing up all over the court.

Millsap is best suited for a 6th man role.

I think we will see improvements in his shot if he dedicates himself(obviously). But he also needs a lot of time and practice with Horny(too bad the lockout is coming).

We'll have to wait and see. I have a lot of trouble believing that CJ is a better option. He's terrible at everything and against everyone. Hell, he was garbage against bench players.

This isn't a video game. Millsap absolutely cannot be a 3 in the NBA. It doesn't matter what CJ is. Millsap can't play that position. He'll never become a screen shooter, he'll never be able to drive, and he'll regress as a shooter with 3's guarding him. Worse, he can't guard 3's.

Millsap can definitely be inserted as a matchup 3. If Ty has any Carlisle in him, he'll put Sap in the game against slower 3's and then have him post (or run screen and rolls). But that's situational. It tickles me to imagine Sap trying to keep up with the Melo's, Pierce's, Lebron's, or Durant's, but he can't hang with the middle tier.

Sap's a 4. He's way better at that than most people give him credit for. But he'll never be our starting 3.

A 2 guard that is great at creating his own shot, Is a good pull up jump shooter from the FT line area, Good FT shooter. Sounds good to me. I think he could be deadly coming off the Harpring pick ether shooting or making the right choice on pass, drive, or shoot.

We don't have an elite PG anymore. I think that means it's more important to stack the wings with play makers. Devin Harris can't be creating for everyone, neither can Hayward. It's going to be a collective effort and Burks will help that.

Nice. SG without range. Jazz style.

Yeah, I really don't like this pick... Smells like another Ronnie Brewer with less consistency shooting from the perimeter... Sure maybe Hornacek can coach him up but I liked our #3 pick better.

Would have loved Jimmer... Now he can shoot...

the last word on the quality of this pick will come when we can see what kind of defender Burks can be. If he can be one of those long 2s who can stay in front of many 1s, then we got a total steal.

But if CJ starts, LOOK OUT NBA!

The Jazz are going to need more than one shooter on the court, and Paul is a better shooter than CJ. He creates a great mismatch in the post, the short corner, etc. against 3s on the offensive end. Further, CJ's nothing special defensively, and Paul should be able to man up opposing 3s as well as CJ has.

Paul Millsap was the Jazz's most efficient, well rounded and consistent player this past season. He's shown he can make major strides over an offseason (as he did with his J last year). He should be starting, and Kanter and Favors should also be getting minutes. The best way for the Jazz to win games is for Sap to get significant minutes at the 3.

No, as I mentioned, the Jazz still need to acquire a starting SF, preferably a veteran. Millsap can play some backup mins. at the 3. He can start at the 4 until Favors is ready. And Kanter likely gets 10-15 initially. there's enough playing time to go around right now, unless Okur comes back strong and healthy.

Sure he can, problem is getting open in the NBA. Remember how many clean looks Korver got a game? 1 or 2 at most. And that's when we had the best PG in the league....

Burks is not a less consistent shooter then Brewer. Their similarity starts and ends with athletic ability. It is an absurd comparison.

we need to keep the defense honest from 3 to unclog the paint, so we can dominate it, and play winning bball.

His game looks a lot like a younger Corey Maggette to me. Good handles can drive and get to the line. I believe they are the same height but Corey plays forward. It appears that he is a little further advances at this point than Maggette was as a rookie, and may have a little better outside shot, but a tad less athleticism. If he can add a three pointer to his game, he could easily be better than Maggette. He will not be a Dwayne Wade, but I can live with a younger Maggette.

That's good value at the 12 pick.

I think Brandon Roy is the best comparison so far. Just wait. Instead of chucking 3's like CJ, he'll drive to the hole creating all kinds of contact. Alec Burks will live at the line.

Dallas and Miami demonstrated this... errr, wait a second.
