What's new

Chris Paul to the Rockets - Beverly is off the table

Paul opted in. He isn't getting a supermax until next year, I guess. He could leave Houston next year if he wants.

I thought that you had to be with your original team to qualify for the new designated player super max contract? Doesn't getting traded away eliminate that possibility? Same thing that Jimmy Butler and Paul George were facing as well.

This could get ugly, all the supstars taking 1+1 max contracts so they can roam the league every offseason for the best possible landing place.

Paul is traded off of his 2016/17 salary not the $24 million opt in for next year.

Okay so 22 doesn't line up with 14 doe and he has a trade bonus that is included too.. could waive it I guess

Houston got the worse end in my opinion. They get an expiring older star, lose a young player in Decker and next year's first, and are still stuck with Anderson.

That is before considering - only one ball...

I grew up watching the old league, and like you my first thought was "aging star on a one-year deal for young assets is a bad trade" but in the new NBA there is no such thing as "long term" there is only next season.
