Hopefully I'm here for a long time. Obviously, everybody would like an extension. If they just want to give me one, if they want to give me more, I'll gladly take it. But at the same time, I'll gladly take them just extending me for the next year to be able to just keep playing basketball — that's what it's all about. I'm just happy to be here, man. I'm just happy that they've given me the opportunities to grow.

Of course the cynic will say that CJ just wants his money before the new CBA/lockout, which could be true, but I think he is in a good situation here - young team, he's part of the core, Corbin seems to have tailored the offense for him a bit, etc.

I don't see why the Jazz wouldn't pick up his option next year...especially if there will be a lockout and they don't have to pay him for part of it. They'd still have his rights to trade him next year or then they can work on an extension with him under the new CBA.
 
CJ is right he's been given the opportunities to grow, just how much he's grown is the question. I'd prefer to let him walk, I guess I value consistency more out of players than guys who play like superstars every once in a while but than play like a scrub the next. I don't believe he has the basketball IQ or work ethic I would like out of a young guy. Use the extra 4 million on someone who does.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if we picked up the option though, I remember KOC talking about the future of the jazz after we traded D-Will and how CJ would be part of that. Maybe KOC thinks CJ will still be the next Ray Allen. The way he evaluates talent, wouldn't put it past him.

I can understand the knock on his consistency, but do you really think he's not talented? Picking up CJ's option is a no brainer IMO. Even if you don't want to keep him on the team, he has definite trade value for what he's getting paid.
 
$3.7M for a player like CJ, whether you like him or not, is a bargain. you have to be at least decent to be able to score 40 points in a NBA game. i don't care it's against the T-Wolves.
 
CJ is a good deal at his salary. I hope they sign him to a 3-4 year extension at the same amount of money. As a backup/rotation SG/SF he is a decent player. Granted his consistency sucks but he is worth that measly salary compared to other player's.
 
Like everyone has said his contract has been great considering the production we've gotten out of him. When guys like Ben Gordon, Charlie V, Mike Conley, Barbosa, Dunleavy, etc. are making twice as much or more as CJ you have to think we got a great deal.
 
As long as he doesn't ask for a ton of money I say extend the contract. He might be on his high horse now after scoring 40 points... everybody has their games where they can't miss, bro.

This is actually the opposite of what was discussed in another thread. It was clearly pointed out that as a backup he sucked donkey balls and that only as a starter could he play well. I do not want him as our starter, and he doesn't play well at all off the bench. Verdict: time to move him or let him move on.
