This is just a really good piece of business. Clarkson gets the bag, the Jazz retain a player they need, and the Jazz get a very cost efficient piece going forward.
My only concern with Clarkson was that we were going to overpay him on a long term deal. The added money this year has little to effect on the team, and $15M a season after this is not bad at all.
So the actual figure has yet to be reported, just best guess speculationShams literally says renegotiation and extension in his tweet lol. This is from Hollinger:

Those are the numbers… or close enough to be relied on. Basically 24.5/15/15-ish.Yeah, still going to be front loaded like I said.
I believe this is the case. Salary matching in a trade during next year also gets weird iirc. It’s doable but I think it might get averaged out.I don’t think he can get traded for 6 months either because the regular extend and trade rules only allow you 20% raises but I don’t know if the rules change for a renogiation and extension.
Definitely Samanic but my guess is neither make the team.So who would you prefer Jazz keep
Samanic or Carey?
Good stuff.
Before the trade deadline last year I had said we should move on from Clarkson, but that's because I thought he would be getting a much bigger contract. $18MM per year is very reasonable for what he brings.
I'm guessing the Damian Jones deal was more about making room for the frontloaded contract than clearing room for a roster spot. I'm also assuming we can't trade Clarkson now, so I think we might be just about done with our offseason.
