Some of this seems odd but this could the first domino in a series of transactions for the Jazz
Tomorrow starts free agency Then the signings and rumors will start

Unfortunately, I must agree with other people in this thread: it is a clear sign that the Jazz will be shopping Kessler. In the modern NBA if you are a center without a 3-pointer range then you are not included in the long-term plans. Kessler does not have a reliable jump shot from any distance and his 52% FT rate in his 3rd year is a strong indicator that he never will.

He will be too expensive for what he brings to the table. Cheap passable centers are the easiest thing to find in the NBA.
 
Pretty meh deal but probably best for us. Gets Sexton out of the backcourt log jam.

Nurkic is absolutely useless but we have less of a glut of young guys we need to develop at C.

Hopefully next year we won’t even have to “tank” to be complete ***.
 
Like if we wanted to tank you can just waive him and keep the pick. Scrap heap guy will be worse than Nurk. Just seems like we are trying to make it look good for the league or something. Like a second rounder in value isn’t the end of the world obviously but now have to watch Nurk? Not as bad as Rudy Gay but still feels like a punishment.

Sexton played with passion and a drive to win. He was an impressive offensive threat who scored pretty efficiently. For those reasons he was a very easy watch.
Sexton regularly didnt run an offense. His competitive drive was not necessarily contagious. ISO basketball is about my least favorite ball to watch imho. He also took minutes from other players and helped us win. For those reasons, I didnt want to watch any more Sexton minutes.

You'd think Charlotte would be done with tanking by now. Multiple lottery and top 5 picks over the last 21 years with only three first round exists to show for it. And people STILL think Charlotte should be tanking. This highlights just how absurd and detached from reality the tanking obsession has become.

It depends on what you mean by "win the trade." Presumably, the FO acts rationally in that it only makes a trade that it believes makes the team better off, whether in short, medium, or long term. Thus, almost by definition, it "wins" every trade. However, if you're suggesting that the FO should free itself from the requirement of being rational by making trades that make the Jazz worse off i.e., lose the trade, that's just stupid.

That highlights the flaw in how commentators, analysts, fans, etc. judge FO moves. As the FO rarely reveals the rationale behind moves or the options they they faced, we don't know what cost-benefit calculation they made, and we elevate what WE would have done in the same circumstance as the "right" move. I think it would be fascinating to see how armchair GMs operate in real-world settings. I'd bet most of my retirement that they frequently make moves other armchair GMs think are dumb. GM'ing in the abstract is doubtless much easier than GM'ing for real.

If blazers is buying out Ayton to clear minutes for their young bigs, absolutely zero excuse for the Ainges to not buy out Sexton. Kinda reminds me of that 2020 draft night fiasco shortly before we fired DL's ***(we traded 23 for Knicks's 27 and 38, then Knicks immediately fliped that same 23rd pick for Wolves 25 and 33, in case anyone needs a reminder)
