Collin Sexton traded to Charlotte Hornets for Jusuf Nurkic

I’ve been away from service….is the word that we’re actually keeping Nurkic?

If so….this may not be as big of a tank move as expected. Spreadsheet would say Nurkic and Sexton are somewhat similar.

Also lest not forget Nurk is a huge negative for team chemistry. The guy has a history of causing issues in the locker room. Going from his Denver years beefing with Jokic all the way up to his last season with the Suns. If you expect him to bring the vet presence you looking at the wrong guy.

There are reports that team spirits were terrible towards the end of the season. By all accounts, the FO is trying to get rid of the old and get on with building a new team. Having established players sulking is not a good start. Sexton is in a contract year and there will probably be a lot of teams with cap space next season. Giving him the opportunity to play for a team that actually wants him might be a favor to him and his agent, which could be beneficial later on. Being bought out is not a good look for a player in his prime and now his new team gets to keep his bird rights, which may be important to him.

I wish Sexton all the best and won`t spend calories getting angry about a second round pick. Nurkic is obviously not a lang term plan for us, but at least this trade gets us matching salary for a future trade in a way buying out Sexton would not.

I hear this a lot, but the people saying it always fail to explain why all the other NBA teams with their highly paid player evaluation pros seem to disagree. Sexton is cheap, and he's been available for several years... yet, crickets.

Maybe Ainge Sr couldn't stomach the thought of sending a pick with him. As was pointed out in this thread, trying to "win" every trade is his major weakness.
This front office hasn't won a trade in a long time.

Thinking the rationale behind this trade is, they're gonna start playing Filipowski at the PF. Maybe they see him better suited there. Bringing in an experirienced established center kind of strengthens the team IMO. Also thinking, that I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up keeping Collins. They could start Hendricks and Williams down (Salt Lake City Stars). Hendricks for steady recovery time from his injury, and Williams for the reason that he maybe is starting to look like a long time project. Lineups to start the season could look like:

1st-------------------2nd
Kessler--------------Nurkic
Collins--------------Filipowski
Markkanen---------Bailey
George-------------Sensabaugh/Juzang/Tonje
Collier--------------Clayton Jr.

I hope they get rid of Clarkson though. Haven't got many issues with him other than the fact that I fear he isn't a very good defender and might end up screwing up the teamdefence esperially on a young team. Hopefully some team with more experienced players and title ambitions could find a place for him as a bench scorer.

Being a Collin Sexton homer and having been a fan since his college days... we traded a guard who shoots almost 50% from the field and 40% from three while averaging 18+ PPG last season for a piece of ****. This is one of those trades where you quietly walk out of the room so the other person realizes you're so pissed you're beyond mad and it sinks in they ****ed up badly.

Clearly the FO wants to tank another season so let's trade the talent so Jazz fans can be rewarded with watching another sub-20 win season just to get ****ed again by Adam Silver....
Are you not happy we got Ace from the tank this year?

My take?

Good riddance.

Have never enjoyed watching him play and he nearly ruined our tank multiple times last season.

Now he can go do it to another team.

DA was too proud to let him go for cheap, so glad AA is brave enough to the right thing here.

We have had the need to clean house on the score first one way combo guard side of our roster for a while. No way you deny Sexton his minutes if you keep him. Now we got almost 30 mpg and a starter role to give.

I think the key question is why we actually did this deal instead of just cutting him? Either we want Nurkic salary to use it in some deal or we wanted Nurkic the player for whatever reason (maybe Kessler trade incoming?).

Its sad he had no value but Sexton was always going to be gone, and that 100% needed to happen one way or another. Clarkson is easier to move to end of bench if he doesnt have any takers simply because of his age and performances... so our hand is not as forced with him.

god I feel sorry for sexton. He's only 26, is also the player who wants to win the most, yet had to endure one season of tanking after another. I chose my #2 basketball jersey because of him and jingles. Now gotta hang it in my closet in await of another #2. Best wishes for sexton, and wtf is the FO doing
