Collin Sexton traded to Charlotte Hornets for Jusuf Nurkic

Worst thing about nurkic is his efficiency.
If you are center then you should be over 50% from the field at a minimum. Should be easy to reach that.
Bad from the field, bad from 3, bad from the line. All on low volume

Come on. Sexton has started 82% of his games over 7 seasons and averages 30mpg for his career.

He's had all the "legitimate shots" in the world. This narrative that the Jazz were somehow holding him back is beyond ridiculous.

Hard for me to imagine that Milwaukee would say no to us bailing them out of Dame straight across. And I get the feeling that Collins in this environment will not net much of anything, either.

This is in contrast to SENDING an asset and looking like fools.

@KqWIN is describing relative deprivation. Pretty neat. He might have some background in political science, sociology, or anthropology.

iow, it's easy for me - either be a legit contender, on your way up (young guys improving, win/loss record improving year to year, going deeper and deeper in the playoffs each year, etc), or tank. and I simply don't mind the last option at all because, as you said, it's low to zero stress, i get to watch prospects play, and along with the low stress, you get to have hope for the future.

We are running with a second year pg. That is going to be rough, wins will be hard fought. However, the time has come to prioritize defense and we can't do that with Sexton, Clarkson, and Paper Mache at the Center spot. The Jazz need a proper center when Kessler sits.

Just like getting Olynyk for Bojan was widely criticized on this board, it helped unlock Lauri and probably got us better value on the other players we traded. I think the coaches wanted Nurk and Ainge went and got him with what we had to spend in matching salary.

Anyway, this return is very depressing but the idea here is that the Jazz want to lose games next year but can't throw games because Sexton and Collins are free agents next year and need to play well to get their last big contract.

Why didn't we waive Sexton then? Because Sexton wants to preserve his bird rights for whatever team acquired him to increase his possible future contract value.

We're basically making everyone who was willing to throw the last 110 or so games whole. This is why Markkanen got more than needed for his max, why we gave up value to move Sexton, why we gave Hardy a five year extension. We'll probably follow this up by trading Collins to his preferred destination even if we get nothing in return and we'll give Kessler a 5/175 extension.

What's the lesson to learn from this? Don't intentionally throw games while keeping quality players on your roster. You'll disgrace the league and have to waste assets to make everyone whole.

I'm calling my shot too... Nurkic is here to stay... at least for the time being. This move makes a lot of sense if you look at it from the view point of roster construction - what we had a lot and what we were missing - tons of combo guards, not enough centers. I think Ainge is building a team that Hardy won't be ashamed to put on the floor. Doesn't mean we will be great, but we will have 48 minutes of competent center play... This is especially in light of the horrible defense we've been fielding the last few years - what's the position with most impact on that - center.

That plus, the value we gave up for Nurkic... this just screams "we actually want Nurkic and we actually value him a ton(more than most)"...

Lesson is DA searching for the perfect trade where we win it outright is not always there.

I mean we basically got John Collins for free and he’s still here…
