I reject your reality and substitute my own.
That’s funny. Up until a couple years ago, I hadn’t been to San Francisco since the late 90s. We were originally from the Bay Area, though we left when I was young. I took my wife and three of our (5) kids and was anticipating showing them some bizarre stuff and anticipated seeing a lot of strung out people. Literally nothing. Saw nothing weird. I think maybe one person who was strung out. It was crazy that it wasn’t crazy. A few months later we drove through Portland on our way to Washington. Went downtown to eat. Saw way more of 1990s San Francisco in 45 minutes in Portland than we saw in 3-4 days in SF.The supreme confidence that people have about the cultural value of New York—even in a place like Los Angeles, which is stuffed full of super talented people—astounds me. It’s a real testament to the weird staying power of myths.
I feel like I witnessed the demise of a city’s cultural value—a demise similar to what happened earlier in NYC—in my relationship to SF. I started going there quite a bit in the late 90s and was absolutely charged-up by the place. It’s now a douchey shadow of its former self. I literally do not want to go there. And yet some people think it’s dope as ever. I’ll take a hard pass on the culture bred by high finance, real estate values, and tech.
SameI never stopped working. In fact we got dramatically busier. Crazy.
Thirded.Same

Exactly 2 years ago. When were you there?
The reason I ask is because it's gotten exponentially worse in the last 2 years. Like, unbelievably worse.
So you were there before it started getting bad again.Exactly 2 years ago.
Excellent thread. Facts.
Doesn't sound fun. Good luck! For the first time today, i spent half my shift in full PPE, next step is the beekeepers suit. ****ing uncomfortable and hot wearing that **** over 6kgs of body armor. This is my new working day.
Spent the first hour of my shift sourcing PPE for my guys, still nothing provided by management so im forced to steal the **** off other departments. Our job is hard enough without having to struggle for the basic **** to keep us safe. If i quit my job i could move back to my folks house after two weeks i wouldnt have to pay rent or work and id be 150 dollars a week worse off. Thats looking pretty attractive right now.
