Ok I was just listening to a little bit of the show today on my way home from work, it was the prediction/preview show with all the guys from 1320. I could have heard it wrong but I swear I heard Locke say he believes Portland will the #1 team in the west! I hope I did not here that right, but I have seen alot of love for the Blazers nationally. I don't get it at all. I see the Jazz, Lakers, and OKC far and above them. Portland has way to many questions. Anyway if anyone could let me know if thats correct without me having to listen to the whole show on podcast I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
 
Why does anyone think that Portland will be any better than they have been in a few years? Did they add Pau Gasol for Oden or something?
 
Locke has never been right on anything. Today he had some formula he invented that told him that Memphis has the best offense in the West and that we are 8th. He just loves hearing himself talk.
 
Seriously.

Why is Portland even considered a top 2 team in this division let alone in the WC? What have they done? Did they add somebody that I'm not aware of? Didn't they lose Steve Blake, their best PG? Andre Miller is way over the Hill and doesn't play very well with Roy (since they both need to hog the ball to be effective). Fernandez has wanted to jump ship for years. Aldrich hasn't improved in years and is soft. Their centers are all made of glass... And even when healthy, they're average at best.

They also run the most conservative offense in the game.

I'll be surprised if they obtain anything higher than a 6 seed. I truly don't understand the love affair that so many are having with them. I'd be much more surprised if they have a better record than the Jazz or Thunder than seeing the Warriors or Clippers in the playoffs.
 
I predict that I will hate David Locke and his play calling this. I predict this will happen and the odds are 100%. We're screwed.

Seriously, I agree with you. I'd put Portland in 3rd place in the division and pick them to get a #6 seed. There's no doubt they have a talented starting-5 and a couple of nice players off the bench. But so does everyone else. Batum is a rising star, but Camby and Miller are getting old.
 
All positive projections of Portland are based on Oden's return to health, which won't happen. If it does the Jazz will sign Sasquatch.
 
Quite possibly the craziest thing I've ever heard Locke say. The Blazers will be good, but I have no idea how anyone outside of Portland thinks they're a better team than OKC or even Utah. Picking them to win the west is just silly.

Blazers simply do not have a reliable post scorer. Alridge is softer than Boozer in some areas of the game, that means a lot. Their backcourt may be the deepest in the West but they will have to deal with
1- Rudy Fernandez's willingness to leave RipCity
2- arrangement of mins at the 1 and 2 positions
3- the dilemma of Roy or Andre Miller to dictate the offense (still not solved)
4- the lack of primary scoring options.
5- Injuries of Oden and Joel.
