What's new

Dear Dennis

Let's be honest here. Exum is not worth an extension and maybe not even in the NBA in two years.

Dennis and Quin are clearly still on the Exum train. When they say kind things about a player just to be polite, you can tell. When they talk about Dante, it is clear that they remain true believers, especially Quin.

Truth is we have no clue who Dante will be in 3 years and he is on a clear upward trajectory. He is unique in losing so much time in his 18-21 year old development age. Call me homer, but I think he gets there.

Exum sucks balls. I dont give a rats *** what excuses are made for him. He is so young. He should be in college right now. He got hurt. He doesn't get to play. He is Australian. Whatever. The dude sucks. Plays like a girl.

Computer. Gets. Emotional. Does. Not. Compute.

Yeah, I had no idea people hated our team this year as much as they do. The level of salt is unreal right now.

Yep. A year ago, ask the whiners if they would be thrilled with a team sitting in the fifth seed on target to win 50, there would be jubilation. The crowd has turned cynical.

Could be worse, Jazzfanz -- I live in Philly where we just gave away an awesome and developing rim protector for a warm 6-pack. Colangelo is being burned in effigy.

Utah wanted Deron.

If Utah wanted Deron they would have gotten Deron. Unless you think Dallas would rather eat some of Deron's remaining salary (clears waivers, signs for min, they owe the rest) more than a second round draft pick.

My thought after yesterday:

Cleveland wanted Mack. Utah wanted Deron.

Utah didn't trade Mack to Cleveland so it looks like Cleveland will sign Deron.

Mack is cheaper than Deron.

Let's say Hill gets hurt for the playoffs and the Jazz get swept first round and Boston goes to the Eastern Conference Finals.

If you're Hayward, do you stay here, knowing the Jazz would rather save a couple million than pay for Deron, or do you go to Boston, who was just in the ECF's, has a top 3 pick and can add you?

Pretty easy decision if I'm Gordon.

Somebody probably responded already, but the Jazz pay the same either way. If they don't get up to the salary floor they just pay out whatever is left over to the guys on the roster. So there is literally no difference in the amount they would pay. If anything, this move says that they think Dante is worth developing for the rest of this season, or that adding Deron isn't worth losing whatever assets they would have had to give up in a trade.

The pay the same thing is not true... if we pick someone up off waivers their full cap hold hits our cap sheet, but we only have to pay the prorated salary amount so approximately 30%. Picking up a 4.2 M player off of waivers would net us a real cash savings of 3M. Which is what a good second round pick costs on draft night. Or could be combined with a second for a better second like the one the hawks or magic have.

It would make sense for us to put in a waiver claim for Mike Scott or Jared Sullinger to save money, but likely means we waive withey for the roster spot.

If the upgrade from mack to dwill isn't worth assets I can't imagine picking up the most liquid of assets (cash) would be worth the downgrade of Withey to Scott or whoever.

Ah ok so you are saying that the Jazz would actually save money by making/getting a waiver claim? I was talking about hypothetically signing DWill after he cleared waivers, but I wasn't aware that they could actually save money by claiming him. If that is true it kills the "Jazz are being cheap" assumption in this case either way. That would be smart, though, if they want to have some extra cash to work with. I think Withey is a useful injury replacement.

Jazz won 40 games last year. They're likely to improve by 8 - 10 games. Not bad in a competitive western conference. The Jazz need to make 1 or 2 prudent moves to reach a higher level. Acquiring DWill as a back-up PG for 10 - 15 mins/night doesn't quite qualify as one of those moves.

Regarding Exum, he's the same age as one-and-done players from the 2015 draft like D'Angelo Russel, and is a year younger than Kris Dunn, who isn't considered ready to be a lead PG. So should all those guys be written off? Exum has less playing experience than those guys. If he can put himself together physically and gain experience, he could be an impact player -- in the mold of a bigger (albeit slower) Tony Parker. Is it worth giving that up for a 32 year-old DWill who hasn't been healthy in years and is a FA at the end of the season?

This statement is a dime a dozen around here and plenty cliche, worn out nonsense. I'm sure you felt the same way about Kosta Koufus & Lurch Fesenko.

Exum is a bust and needs to go before his value becomes that of Enes Kanter, Trey Burke, and now Alec Burks. I don't know how many times I have to be right about everything before you fools heed my advice.

High quality stuff.

Let's start with once. ;)

Exum sucks I wish we had traded him.

Also I wore my Exum jersey today because he is good and going to be great.
