But this isn't a feature of a two-party system, this is a feature of electing the head of state directly. And yes, I know, electoral college and all that, but the president of the US is elected more directly than say the president of Germany or Israel, who is simply voted on by their respective parliaments without voter input. For practical purposes, the USA does elect the president directly.

Most countries that have a president elect them in an election that requires 50%+1 of the vote. That almost inevitably means there has to be a second round of voting featuring two top-place finishers because the first round is not going to yield a majority for anyone. I hold Croatian citizenship, and though I don't vote in elections, I follow them fairly closely. They elect a president every 5 years. Last time around, the top two candidates combined for just under 57% of the vote in the first round.

That meant that 43% of the people had to either stay home in the second round, or vote for someone who was not their first choice. In 2010, it was actually 52%. Top two candidates garnered 33% percent and 15% of the vote, that's how splintered the field was.

You could have as many parties as you'd like, unless you're willing to accept that someone getting a third of all the votes cast will become president, you will end up with a runoff. If the US had the same kind of system as Croatia, it would still come down to Kamala and Trump. I don't think a system exists where you get to vote for the absolute perfect candidate for president and also have the winning candidate have the actual support of majority of people.

ANC is a national shrine to the honored dead of the Armed Forces, and its dedicated staff will continue to ensure public ceremonies are conducted with the dignity and respect the nation’s fallen deserve,” the statement said."

No, it’s not. Reminded me of the time he pushed aside the Prime Minister of Montenegro. In this instance nothing was about to stop Donald Trump from making a campaign video at Arlington. Very glad to see the strong rebuke from the Army, and I hope that response gets a lot more play on the airwaves. I also appreciate this veteran’s opinion:

"Donald Trump has no right to use our most hallowed ground for his political aims," Fred Wellman, a 22-year Army combat veteran, said Wednesday. "For a lot of us, and I'm not the only one, people are aptly furious."

Wellman said Trump's desire to honor the fallen still had to conform with the law. "There's an actual federal law on the books saying it cannot be used political purposes," he told USA TODAY. "The families put out a statement saying, 'Oh no, we authorized it.' They don't get that right. The families don't get the right to make decisions for the other people buried there."

I do have to admire the masters of spin for this narrative.

Joe Biden made a decision that killed 12 American soldiers, then lied on national TV to say no one died on his watch. Then Kamala, wanting to build some creditability, proudly proclaimed herself to be the last person in the room when that American-soldier-killing decision was made. Since then, the gold star families have heard nothing from either Biden or Kamala, other than Biden's public statements that their kids who died serving our country didn't exist. Trump said they existed and they mattered, and he would be honored to raise awareness of their sacrifice by laying a wreath on their graves. The families all accepted his offer.

Did it raise awareness for human beings who lost their lives? Nope. It is about a regulation and staff and photography equipment. That is an impressive spin on what has been some awful behavior from Biden/Harris.

It might sting more than in years past though. Now that there is a more viable option out there who is actually carrying some momentum, more people will take note of his erratic and unhinged behavior.

Can we get a different adjective then unhinged? Trumpian, maybe? Trumpish?
