Dwill - Leadership with Rookies ?

In D-Will's defense, he was talking with Hayward during time outs last night. I think he is trying to help the guy.

He built his confidence in pre-school, grade school, high school, and college. If he doesn't have a backbone, and some confidence in himself despite what other people say, he will probably never get it. That being said, you dont have to kill they guy or abuse him..... and I dont think either of those things is being done to him.

He's all grown up now, he can handle it.

Not true. Dude is 20. He can't even go out with his team mates for a drink. That's got to be some what alienating. Like the MO stated, we don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but damn, it wouldn't be too hard for DWill to put his arm around the kid in public to make him feel good.

He is a baller imo. It is up to his leaders how to maximize his potential.

I'm with Jay on this. It would have been a good time to mention Hayward in some postive way. That statement does not require that a mention of bell or no mention of bell is required.

Jay - stay on top of this becuase so far, it appears Dwill has NOT given Honzward the benefit of the doubt.

Hayward would respond to hugs and kisses. Less so to a tough the love approach. DWill would have been better served to complement the dude in some small way imo. He may be starting in the back court next to him again soon.

Really? Leadership requires boosting ego whether it is deserved or not? D-Will leads by example. He leaves everything on the court. He's a winner. As long as he's not divisive then I'm not asking him to take personnel management and player ego development courses. He can work on free throws or growing bigger pecks instead.

How old are you? What does being old enough to buy a drink have to do with anything? When you were 20 did you want your boss, or co-workers to pay for an ad in the paper stating how cool you were? Would it really help? I say no. You encourage and support people on an individual basis, not through the media. Confidence comes through working through the tough times to excel at something when its hard. Mediocrity is the result when you praise someone when they dont deserve it. If praise is hard earned, it will mean something when it happens. If it is given out every time you flush the toilet, it means nothing and is seen as fake. It has to be sincere, or it is worthless. Sorry, but he hasn't earned the praise yet.... not saying he can't or won't soon.

I think all you guys are reading too much into Deron's comments. Of course the Jazz missed Bell; he's a starter, he's a team leader. And he's a tough SOB. Jazz couldn't stop anyone in the 2nd, 3rd and down the stretch. Raja may have helped.

Exactly, Glass. I just don't git it, eh? If I say I lke Bush, is that spozed to make Gore cry? Well, bad example, mebbe, Gore might, who knows? Deron didn't say a word about Hayward. Mebbe Hayward is cryin because Jerry starts Raja, who knows? That would, like, really, REALLY hurt, doncha think? Now he knows the coach HATES his *** and aint gunna baby him. Mama never done it that way, I betcha.

On second thought, I think the Jazz should hire Hallmark writers for all the little saps who are still broken over not making the junior high team, or anything else thereafter. All we need is some bunnies, pie, and a remake of "We Are the World".

Calling out Hayward like he did is leading by example?

Wouldn't be the first damn time some Babe up and tried to cut or blow my head clean off, eh? Just last week I woked up to da sounda dat sawwed-off bein shucked, and that Babe sayin: "Hoppa, I swears to Gawd, this here time Imma blow yo sorry head clean off."

Too late, Darlin, I done dove through the winda.

Where did he call him out? he said they missed Bell, maybe they did. If your talking about the last little deal, there was way too much made over a heat of the moment thing. And Howard has barely played since then so maybe the coaches agree with Deron.
