With all the excitement of Ty not getting renewed, I feel like someone punched me in the gut when I heard Boylen's a possibility. He coudln't have done a worse job with Utah if he had tried. Someone please tell DL that Bolen managed to alienate both Utah and BYU fans.

Not a good hire.

Why does everyone assume that anyone with ties to Utah is a good fit for Utah.

There's exactly 30 NBA head coaching jobs. The Jazz have a young (and hopefully talented) roster and likely a top five pick in a loaded draft. They should have some decent options.

Plus, considering what they were willing to pay Biedrins, Rush and Jefferson they can afford to pay whatever it takes to get a top-level coach.

Jody Genessy of the Deseret News writes of several other possible options, including Mike Longabardi, Alex Jensen, Brad Jones, Fred Hoiberg, Ettore Messina and Andy Greer, as well as Larry Krystkowiak."

I see Messina has been a successful coach in euro-ball, so that's good.
Andy Greer is Chicago Bulls assistant. So that might be good.
Longabardi appears to be good at defense, having been an assistant with the Celtics. He looks good.

I actually don't know much about Hoiberg. Except he has a lot of fans. Can one of the fans tell me what they like about him so much?

Jensen and Jones we all know are Jazz assistants. Jazz have looked terrible under Corbin so I don't know how to evaluate these guys. Horny was under Corbin but he's turned out great as HC.

If anyone knows factoids about why one of these guys would be a great coach please do tell.

I think the fact that the players don't seem to like Corbin much, and the assistants were on team Corbin, I don't think you can promote any of them to head coach. The players have heard their stories and didn't buy them. You "might" be able to keep one around as an assistant, but not as the #1 or #2.

You need the new coach to come in with full authority and a new voice.

Is this who you want as the coach of the Jazz?

I actually liked this most about Boylen. He responded this way to Monson who I think is a sensationalist moron at best. It made me laugh, and still makes me laugh.

The reason I don't want Boylen is he got nothing out of his players and his teams performed well below expectations. Is it possible he does better on the NBA level when he doesn't have to recruit? Maybe, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to risk it.

I like the video of him.

I don't give a **** about what he did in college. It's college basketball and it's a completely different game than NBA basketball, where he has been able to land numerous high profile assistant jobs.

I wouldn't mind hiring this dude.

My biggest issue with Boylen besides X's and O's (which are often dependent on talent or other things fans don't fully understand) is just a lack of awareness.

Heard from multiple basketball players that he allowed them to do drugs and would tell them when tests were coming, just worry that he is a smart basketball guy but not a good people person.

Please please please yes..the melt downs here will be sooo worth it.

^^^^ not a jazz fan
Just a fan of jazzfanzers bitching tbh

I appreciate that you find much of the group-think on these forums to be laughable. However, do you similarly find taking the position at the other end of the spectrum, for the sake of occupying that end of the spectrum, to be equally laughable?
